?Misty or Wildtype Green

Post by Lushen1600 »

Hi all, just curious to know if my green hen is a normal widltype green or a misty green.

Image

I have always been curious as to why her shading of green is different to the cockbird and to other green hens, will take out better pics tomorrow morning, have my rechargeable battery on charge for my cheap camera, so don't expect the best of pics, but they should be better than the one above taken with my mobile phone.

Thanks
Lushen

Hi Lushen,

Is the female split for any mutation, as far as you know?

Hi Recio, not that I know of, why do you ask if she is split?

Thanks

Hi all, as promised I have taken some pics of the green pair, but weather here is cloudy this morning, so not the best pics. You will notice the difference in shading from the male to female, take note of the brown sheen on the hen and also her lighter overall colour, also look at her flights and main tail feathers which are lighter than the cock bird, both cock and hen are 2010 birds with closed band rings so they have been through the 27 month moult and have their adult plumage

Hi Lushen,

IMO your birds are normal green, both.

I too have noticed some mature hens being slightly lighter/rustic look in color than males.
I have one similar to yours and the only thing different about her is that she is not split to anything (not even blue)
would yours be split blue? (Recio might be onto s-thing, could it be the non split blue to be a diff. color?!)
Here's a video of wild ringneck pair and colors are similar to your pair.

Ben, I trust you are doing the EmeraldBlue or Emerald x Green test breeding with that bird?

@ Lushen;

I also think that it is a normal green hen but I was wandering if she could be split for a mutation decreasing melanin levels (always trying to show that maybe some of the so called recessive mutations are in fact incomplete dominant mutations with a very low expressivity in the heterozygous form).

@ Ben;

It seems that Deon's Emerald female paired to a wild type male is not going to throw any chick this year ... so let's know how your birds are progressing :)
