What color is this?

Post by Rueae »

I've found some ringnecks near me that I am considering buying. This one has caught my eye, but I'm not entirely sure what it is. It's still young, hatched this year and it's siblings seem to be blue pallids.
Not sure yet on the mutations of the parents.

Anyone know what mutation this is?

I would say turquoise, but I was under the impression babies of that mutation started off pretty much all blue and then the green came later?
Also there seems to be an odd pattern to the flights, but I can't really tell.

You are right it is a turquoise. The volume of green or blue varies. Birds with a specific phenotype bred together will produce true to type in this mutation. It's the random pairing which causes mixed results.

Got a picture of it's flights.
I've been looking up some turqs, and the feathers seem...lighter?
I'm not sure. Is this just because it's a baby? Is this definitely a turquoise, still?

He is, but would stay around the same or is this just baby-plumage?

Do all turq. birds end up about about like this:

I could then expect him to look this way in 2 or 3 years?
