piedringnecks

Post by piedringnecker »

Hello
I have a pair of ringnecks that the male is a rainbow and the female is a normal green.
When they have babies they all come out pied some extremely pied and very bright in colour almost looks like lacewing colouring.
anyone have a idea what type pied i would have?
I know its dominate but what would make the plummage so vibrant?
tnx ja[URL=http://s834.photobucket

Hi there if it is piedness then its recessive not dominent,

If its dominent thenyou will see one of the parents as pied.

One of the parents will be split to recessive pied.

Can you show pictures of the pair and the babies so we can help identify them for you,

The link to photo bucket doesnt work.

Why do you say she is not a lacewing/pallid? From the pic that you are showing that is what it looks like, as you mentioned. Dad looks to be split to pallid. Can you get closer pictures of the back, wings, head and nape? Im sure the pros in here would not mind seeing better images to help give you a well defined answer.... My brother-in-law always says if it looks like a duck, and walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck well....then it's a duck LOL!!!

OK i will bite !!!

She is pied and most likley dom.pied with also the pssibility of her being pallid.

the only way it could be recessive is if the male was split to recessive pied,
thats why all the babies look to be pied. which is lucky because only 50% of the male/female babies should be pied.

Q1, What is the actual colour make upof the cock bird?
Q2, What arethe main colours of the babies?

i am trying to work out the make up off the parents as to whats in the nest.

photos of bubs would help heaps.

if the father of the babies is turquois blue pallid = in aus rainbow, then
any pallid babies are hens thats if the hen is not pallid as well.

tell me the exact make up of the dad and the colour of offsping and i will post your results.

also the reason the babies could be bright compared to the parent is some breeders believe that weak colour birds can produce stronger babies and visa versa! and some believe that as the pareants age the babies weaken in colour!

Hi Jasper,

OK now then the hen cant be split to pallid hens cant be split pallid or ino, theres others as well but i will stick on topic,

Your hen is pallid dom.pied split blue.

Now the outcomes as you know most of them already because of the babies they are below.
Now ever baby that is cinnimon is a hen.
Every thing that is after the / is what the babies are split to.

1.0 turquoise(parblue)Blue cinnamon
x 0.1 pallid dom.pied(sf) /blue
% from all 1.0
12.5% 1.0 green dom.pied(sf) /turquoise(parblue) cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 green /turquoise(parblue) cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 blue dom.pied(sf) /cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 blue /cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 green dom.pied(sf) /blue cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 green /blue cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 turquoise(parblue)Blue dom.pied(sf) /cinnamon pallid
12.5% 1.0 turquoise(parblue)Blue /cinnamon pallid
% from all 0.1
12.5% 0.1 green cinnamon dom.pied(sf) /turquoise(parblue)
12.5% 0.1 green cinnamon /turquoise(parblue)
12.5% 0.1 blue cinnamon dom.pied(sf)
12.5% 0.1 blue cinnamon
12.5% 0.1 green cinnamon dom.pied(sf) /blue
12.5% 0.1 green cinnamon /blue
12.5% 0.1 turquoise(parblue)Blue cinnamon dom.pied(sf)
12.5% 0.1 turquoise(parblue)Blue cinnamon
