Pastel Violets

Post by James Philpott »

Hi, I have bred a pair of pastel violets together an both the of the chicks are starting to feather up now, but they both look like a grey IRN.
What should I expect as far as coloar goes with these birds.

Hi,
Pastel violet x pastel violet

% from all 1.0
25.0% 1.0 turquoise(parblue)
25.0% 1.0 turquoise(parblue) violet(df)
50.0% 1.0 turquoise(parblue) violet(sf)

% from all 0.1
25.0% 0.1 turquoise(parblue)
25.0% 0.1 turquoise(parblue) violet(df)
50.0% 0.1 turquoise(parblue) violet(sf)

So you should only get pastels, pastel violets, and dark pastel violets. there should be no greys. hope this helps :D

Hi guys if the father is split ino then there is a chance that the chicks may visibly be grey and masking violet.

Only a chance though.

Give it a bit more time for the feathers to come through.

Thanks Glenn

Hi,

As greenbean says it is not possible to get any grey from these parents. If the chicks look like grey the only possibility is that the parents are not pastel violets but pastel cobalts, (very similar to pastel violets), and then they can produce mauves which are very similar to greys.
Can you post a pic of parents and chicks?

Ino has nothing to do here.

Let's wait for feathers growing up ...
