Post by maloney »

hi i got a irn from my local rescue centre and im in need of some advice he's was in the rescue centre for a few weeks they said they had found him outside.

im not sure if its a boy or girl as he has plucked alot of his feathers out he was so scared at first when he came home but has started to settle in hes makin a lot of diff noise's and hangs upside down and strum's the bars of his cage which i find funny lol

he wont let me go near him and hes going in the corner of his cage with his back against the bars . how can i get him to calm down ? i never had a irn before
hope some one can help and give me some tips on how to handle him thanks xx

Hey, you need to socialize with it.
Meaning, every time you pass by
the cage you call its name, say hello
and whatever..over time as he/she
gets more used to his home, he/she
will get excited and happy wen you
talk to him/her...good luck

What corner? On top of the cage or from the inside, does he just sit in the most of the time? If so, try getting him toys up top & get him his own playstand outside of the cage. There are diff kinds, ones that stand up real tall made out of real tree branch's, or you can buy ones that hang from a ceiling.

Wen he strums on the bars, it should not be a problem.

Yea, try leaving the door open for him one day. Soon he will notice that its open and climb up. These things are climbers, they climb around the entire cage..nonstop. Well wen your bird gets used to you, it will. They are like monkeys in trees.
