petting... a quick question

Post by jennamarie »

hey can anyone tell me how loong it was before thier IRN was comfortable with them petting them. i no this is different with every bird but mine just doesn't seem to want to know and everytime i go near him he does what ever he can to get away. the most i can get is for him to sit on my finger but then if i move him away from his cage he'l jus grab hold of the cage and get back on, i cant get him away, i just cant wait to cuddle him like evry one else :( lol he's only 11 weeks so he mite just not be used to it yet.
anyone???

Jen, This will take time. Maybe a year from
now, Or maybe a few months. You just have to
spend much time with the bird daily whether
the bird shows interest in you or not.

It won't be easy, Its Tough! Because after awhile
you may or may not lose interest in the bird but
you got to spend time.

Take your bird into a bathroom, Make sure
the toilet is closed & door, Then just perch
your bird on your fingers until it gets used
to you.

What Marine said.
Just adding, some birds just dont like it and never will. My Lola has never let me touch her (unless its for step ups, shes good at stepping up, just dont touch her). But we have always handled Jibby from when we first brought him home, he was hand reared which might of helped. Although he goes through fases, sometimes he wont let you pet him, other times hes all for head rubs. He likes it when it suits him.

But yes, keep handling him and give him time and all your patience. Hes still a bub and is probably still very wary of you and your hands touching him.
As Marine said, the bathroom is a perfect place for teaching your birds.

Reason why the bathroom is a good place is
so your bird doesn't feel the need to fly & perch
on things. Bathrooms are suppose to be small..
Just adding.. :P

Wen he steps up, Turn your body away from the
cage quickly with him facing opposite direction of
cage, Don't turn back unless you want to return him
onto the cage.
