Dear all,
My name is Saqib. I have a parakeet in my custody at the age of 2 weeks and now he is about 1 years old. But his feathers looks like rotten at some places and his tail is about half inches long. Please suggest me what kind of medicines or diet I give to my parrot.

Hi,
Before you do anything, you need to determine whether your bird's "rotten" feathers is a disease or not. Check out http://www.avianbiotech.com/DiseaseCenter.htm
They have the common diseases and pictures to help you establish whether your bird had something. You can also send off for testing kits to verify whether your bird has a particular condition. Then, go from there. If your bird does not have anything like what that website explains, check out http://www.indianringneck.com/breeding/ for apple cider and its benefits. I also came across another website off of www.vetafarm.com.au that has various articles that offers advice. Check out Vetaclub newsletter issue 4 on allergies, vitamins and viruses. They sell things for supplements. I am not sure exactly what your birds looks like, it could be as simple as not enough cage space, stress to the diet you are feeding it. I had one bird that you flap it's wings and his flight feathers were ragged. I had to move him to a bigger cage so they could grow back out. He was used to an open flight cage. I unfortunately could not give him this big of a cage. Anyways, best of luck, I hope this helps!
