Beak issue? a bit concerned. advice?

Post by RE4P3R »

Hi Guys

The last week i noticed something with Mario's Beak, and im a little concerned.

as you can see by the photo below, there is sections of his beak that look like its kind of rotting away, i dont know if its rotting or not, because it doesnt seem to cause him discomfort. But he has been grinding his beak more often over the past 2-3 days. (I noticed the beak thing before he was grinding so much) so, honestly, im just looking for a little advice.

And weather or not a VET trip is needed or not.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Describe 'rotting away'. Do you mean turning black? Or is it like an outer layer of beak has chipped off?

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

What actually happened was, the 2 nights ago I noticed he wasn't happy and calm as he usually is, he looked like he was having some trouble breathing (he could breathe, but breathing heavy) and making weird noises (pffftfp) as well as tail bobbing.
So I researched it a bit and found it was all linked to a respitory issue, and I took him to the vet the next night.

Turned out he had a small cyst in his mouth, as well as chlamidia (found a bacteria in his droppings) and was weighed at 115grams.

So he was given a shot (took it well, no screech, just like.. Oh ok, needle in my belly.. Whatever)
And was given 2 types of meds to give to fight off the cyst and bacteria.

The VET said that he should be ok, keep his food intake up and increase his weight, and to pick up a heat lamp.

But his first concerns were the infection and cyst.
Get then sorted and then focus on weight.

We brought him home, set up the heat lamp to point at the bottom of his cage so it wasn't in his face, and go back to the vet in a weeks time and get him re checked.

Thanks for the wishes,

Yeah, i certainly am grateful i looked into it.

So over the next week, ill be giving him the meds that were prescribed each night, and take him back in about a week.

And hopefully its all good news.

i really hope that this will sort it all out.
