Biting during hand feeding.

Post by Octodonk »

Hey,

I month back I bought a 5 month old Ringneck, she wasn't tame. It has taken a month but now she's starting to take food out of my hands from behind the bars. She will take apple, etc from my grip when I put them through and will take peas off my hand when I put it in. The problem is though, when I do the pea one she bites my fingers before she takes the peas. She doesn't bite if I just hold something in there, it's only if I sit something on my hand. She does a few soft bites then gets harder then takes the food, I try my hardest to ignore it, but it huuurts.

Is this to be expected?

In a nutshell, yes,

She's unsure of your hand in that position (maybe flat vs closed, in cage vs out, yes?) so she's testing it.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

I have had better luck with a piece between 2 fingers rather than an open hand, maybe that big open hand seems scary or some how threatening :?: Oh & welcome too !
Just takin a break !
