My IRN is viscous towards the other birds

I have just bought 3 IRN's and there not hand tamed but one of them is very viscous towards the other two what do i do to stop this behavior.

What are the sexes of the birds?

How big is the cage they are in?

Are any of them previous pairs?

Are they related?

What are you feeding?

What do you do when the fight?

How long have they been together?

It may be pecking order, it may be that you have 2 dominate birds or 2 males and 1 female there are many variations here. If you go through the questions it will be easier to pin point the issue.

im also interested in a response to this. ive had a similar problem for a while now.

iggy is a female, unknown age but mature. she was abused and is naturally fairly distrusting. she had a partner until her previous owner killed him by feeding it redbull and mcdonalds chips. i dont think the pair were sexually active (the environment was definately too stressful). we had her for nearly a year before getting salvador.

weve had salvador about 5 months, and hes about 6 months old. hes lovely to boot and very friendly. ive had him dna tested and he is a male.

they both have same diet. it varies depending what i make, but usually a daytime mix of either sweet potato mash or a brown rice & lentil porridge, both mixed with fresh vegetables (varies depending what i get). they usually get atleast one piece of fruit a day, and will often have seed at night as i put them to bed (they pound into it for a good few minutes before retreating to sleep).

they are in seperate cages though right next to each other. ive followed the slow progressive joining of the two, starting in opposite rooms and slowly bringing together. salvador is very curious of iggy and often trying to say hello. but all she ever tries to do is attack him. however, and when ever, possible.

i came home the other day and shed managed to grab and bite his beak, scraping off some of the top layers, and right now (about 10 mins ago) shes bitten his foot as he put only one foot on her cage for balance climbing down, she just happened to be close by enough to make a good lunge and now his toe is bleeding (its almost stopped) and hes avoiding standing on it.

im at a complete loss as to what to do about it, because its very hard socialising with both. iggy has regressed since we've had salvador, possibly due receieves less attention (namely becuase salvador craves it so much where as she normally cant get away fast enough) and its really becoming a problem. i cant keep her if i have to keep worrying about whether she'll one day be lucky enough to seriously injure or even kill salvador...

With the hen being mistreated it may take her a while to come round.

I have a male here who was in cage when it was hit off a shelf and broke his wing, beak and leg.

It took 7 months for him to become truely comfortable with us (he now crawls all over us and loves company). I dont introduce them slowly I let them all out together in our house and let them sort it out themselves.

A lot of people dont like doing it this way but personally I find it safer as there is room for them to get away, they are under supervision and in an open mutal area.

My birds get fed mixture of pellets and seed (10 kg pellets to 2 kg of seed), fresh fruit and veg twice a day and heaps of nuts in shells. I offer the nuts to them by hand firstly to get the birds more comfortble with us.

Each bird also gets time one on one with us.

With your hen, I would spend time with her in the bathroom with the shower on (IRN's love water). talk quietly to her and let her look in the mirror. She will take time and go slowly with her, nuts are great rewards for them - especially peanuts and almonds.

Let her sit on the couch with you when you watch TV, just talk to her but dont pressure her into anything. When you eat something let her pick at it from bits you pull off. These are movements birds make to each other in a colony setting( I have watched mine do it over the years). It is almost like a grooming session to accept each other. I hve found it works with all the birds I have wether they be IRN's or Galahs.

My baby is only 8 weeks old but he attacked my iphone today when I was showing my daughter a video of HIM! I am thinking he might have some aggression issues down the road.

welll iggy, the hen, hates nuts, hates showers, and i cant let her near the other bird cos she will kill him given the chance.

she hasnt had as much one on one attention since salvador is around, maybe i'll give that a go.

and i dont really watch tv, so that cancels that out too
