Taming advice please !

Post by chris&julie »

We have bought 2 IRN's and had them a week now , they are aviary bred and therefore had no/little contact with people . They are both under 10 months old . We have managed in week to get them off the roof of their cage (where they hung on with all their life) to letting us near the cage without bolting off .
Were do we start ? We need guidance (idiot proof) on gaining their trust so we can start letting them out for a fly . (or exercise if clipped)
Do we have their wings clipped as we've heard it helps with taming ?
Any advice will be gratefully accepted .

Cheers all
Chris and Julie :)

Hi!! The first place you want to start is seperating them to their own cages. Once you have done that, work with them one on one. This is going to take a great deal of patience on your part. Wing clipping does help but not until they get used to their surroundings, you dont want to force yourself on them right now. Sometimes i find it better to just sit quietly by the cage and talk with them, then when they are at ease with your voice open the door and let them come out on their own. You might want to have a treat or a toy in your hands to peak their intrests. The rest is kinda up to the birds.

Good Luck!
dont give up on them.
