Introducing a new IRN to my aviary

Post by baldy »

I've managed to catch a roaming IRN that showed up at my aviary a few days ago. We don't have IRNs romaing in the wild here, so she must have escaped from a cage or aviary in the area. I want to introduce her into my aviary, where I have an existing pair. Problem is, the existing female viciously attacks the new one when I let her in.

For the time being I've now let the new one live in a cage inside the house, but she's clearly not tame. Should I rather go through the taming process, or try to introduce her into the aviary. How would I go about introducing her?

i definitly wouldnt put her in an avairy with a bonded pair!!!!
i lost one of my hens that way my oother hen killed her
she would be able to be tamed
it will be slow going but definitly better than putting her in danger

as Bec said dont put her in with a pair. Hens defend their territory and one or both will get seriously injured or killed.
