You know how to hand feed right? A baby this young should be on feeding every 3 hours with a special babybird formula. Im shocked that someone sold you a baby this young when you have all these questions. You should of had all these questions asked before you brought him home. Im hopeing the breeders showed you how to feed him properly. Good luck!! It's a beautiful baby Donna

Please make sure you keep it warm under lights or in a brooder. feed every 3 hours and just feed until crop is full but not so full that its stretching the crop. Your formula should be at about 102 to 104 degrees f. If to cold the crop will not empty properly. Do not feed again until crop is completely empty. Donna

cover his box with a couple of towels and feel his skin to make sure his warm, but not hot.
If still not warm add another towel

i'm sory to say, but this is unhuman. to have a bird and not to know how to feed and, where to have (temperature,moisture,....) i jut hope everything ll be ok.
probably you dont know that is not all just about feeding every 3hrs and having right temp., you have to check 100 of other things that everything is ok...

i wish all the best to birdy...

i cant believe someone would sell a bird to someone that has absolutely no clue on what they are doing, and at that age! i seriously hope you figure out how to take care of him as soon as possible, the poor thing!

The chick needs proper BIRD raising formula Not human baby formula.

It seems to happen fairly often  some people just care about getting money and dont care if the bird isnt taken care of after it leaves them.

I had to jump through hoops to get my alex off the breeder, i had to prove i had hand raised before and i could look after a bird in general.

As said before he SHOULD NOT be eating human cerelac baby food, it doesnt contain all the vitamins and nutrients your baby needs, you will end up with a deficiency that could affect his bones, his legs (he could get splayed legs as he grows) and other feather problems. PLease go buy your baby proper AVIAN bird porridge from your local pet store or prefereably vet, but from the pics you are doing a great job so far, keep it up! Just pls get him the right porridge!

oh and just another thing - he should only be eating porridge at his age, he is far too little to be eating anything else, his little tummy is still too sensitive and small for solids. :) so get him some avian porridge and stick with that for another 3 to 4 weeks, and once he is grown and had his feathers (keep posting pics and we can tell you roughly when) then he can try solids and other treats.

Read this link :!: http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... ?f=1&t=799

An alex will need more food than a ringneck but the feeding times are the same!
The crop will look round when full, but shouldnt feed hard or you have fed too much. It will feel kind of spongy.
Have a look at this post too. http://www.indianringneck.com/forum/vie ... =full+crop
Look at the pics of when they have pin feathers, about the same amount as your bub has. Thats how the crop should look.

Can you get proper handraising food where you live??

Why are you buying baby birds if you can't afford the proper diet?

You have a baby bird, you need to pay the money and get the correct food for it. Are you going to be able to afford to take it to a vet when it gets sick from eating the wrong food?

If I've done the conversion right, 6200 rps is about $62 Australian Dollars. I imagine it's much cheaper than that over here. I'm presuming you are from India... can anyone else help source this food. Somewhere must do it cheaper than that?

Ellie.

nope its about the same price here. assuming its the same size bags. Its not cheap to handraise baby birds. It is essential that they are fed right when babies otherwise there will most likely be problems with the bird later in its life.

elli its 2800rps so that would be even cheaper wouldnt it.

please DO NOT listen to the above, your baby is too small to digest such things, and it will do more harm than good. If you cannot afford proper bird porridge, continue with the cerelac but please go to a pet store or even better, your local vet and ask about a vitamin supplement for the bird.

Please please DO NOT give it mashed up veg and ESPECIALLY not peanut butter, that is far too rich for such a baby.

Have you named it yet?
Are its feathers opening?
You are doing a great job, please keep posting pics and updates!

Keep it up!

hey too cute man!
they grow so fast, you will def have to keep us updated.
and dont be mad at the ppl here, we mean no offense to you, just cant belive the breeder would sell you such a small baby, and not instruct you properly on heating and food etc, rightfully the breeder should have given you some of the proper bird porridge for your baby when you got him, and you should definately not got him so small, but you doing a good job :) . As i say pls just look out for a vitamin supplement for him/her, as splayed legs and calcuim deficincies can casue big problems for your baby, that can affect them for their entire life, and that you cannot fix once baby is fully grow, watch how his her legs grow, ensure they dont bend in, or splay too much outwards.

So yeah, no offense to you personally just the breeder really for being so stupid....

hey there, good luck n let me know if you find a supplement, you never said if you have named the baby yet?
If you dont mind me asking, how old are you? as in, do you work, go to school etc?
Just wondering how much time you spend with your baby a day, as i just handling and petting other than feeding them, coz its at such a lovely cute age! I would give anything to have a bubba that age to raise but i work and just dont have the time, i have just finished hand raising my little blue ringneck girl, over the dec break.... Alexandrines are just so so expensive over here, i know my bf would love one!!
You r so lucky friend!

lol i nearly nearly said i am the same age, then realised i am 20 now... still 18 at heart.
i hand raised my first 2 indian ringnecks in 2009 from 2 weeks old (same size as your baby)
An alexandrine here cost roughly R1000 to R1500 for a baby or adult. WAY out of my price range, our indian ringnecks have cost me R350 at the most, the rest I have adopted or rescued.... or my breeding pair, which was 2 lovely colour birds, with big cage and breeding nox cost R1100 (what an alexandrine would have cost)
 so as much as i would love one, its way out of my price range!
