Kinna off topic.. But my lovvie is a plucker

Post by ambros1a »

The little lovebird we adopted a short while back, came to us with no tailfeathers of even fluffy lil ones covering his butt. It was all part of his charm, thinking maybe he was picked on somewhere along the way. However, short and simple truth is he plucks - incessently. Makes this funny lil PEEP noise, thats not so funny when u see hes ripped off a piece of skin with it.

I need help!

I know its not lice, coz weve sprayed him for that with the other 2. Ive also had it suggested as a vitamin deficiency. Could be possible its hard as to get him to eat fruit and vegies but he tried some bread today, trick being to put it out, and walk away.

IF anyone can help me, please we would both appreciate it. He needs his butt feathers, hes not even a duck butt, its kinna sad =\ poor lil guy.

these supplements serves with fruits and vegetables, if he doesnt eat them you can use softfood (Feast) like carrier

or use Fussy Feeder Essentials in his drinking water .

I must wait at least 2 months to see the results.

One of the first things a vet would test for would be a parasite called giardia. It's a good idea to rule that out first. False negatives can occur, and there are two ways to test for it. Your vet would know which is best.

The vet might also do a blood test and then you would know for sure if the little one were defecient in any vitamins.

Also, an aloe spray might help. Some info:

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

thanks for the suggestions.

Im planning on taking all 3 fids to the vet on friday. Time for clipping and get Indi checked again. We had a close call with him yesterday, came home at lunch from work, to find him stuck inside his happy hut, a thread wrapped around his neck. Adam had to take his hut out, so i could cut the thread. He lost it for a bit so we could cut every loose thread on it, and have checked it twice since already.
Think imma get rid of it, and get him a birdy buddy instead. What do u think?

I would - anything with loose threads, especially fi they are really thin threads, can be very harmful if not fatal. I got home one afternoon to discover Max with thread wrapped tightly around his foot. If I had been an hour later I think it would have been too late and the foot would have been off.
Since then I have never had any thread/string anywhere near him unless thicker than a shoelace.
