informal "contest" to help parrot adoptions

Post by BigChicken »

Hi all. I’ve been looking for reference material for some water color paintings and maybe a relief carving of a parrot. If you have a really good PIC of one of your flock I would love to see it. PLEASE don’t post them here! They need to be nice clear PICS, maybe in flight, a cute pose, a nice pose on a branch, whatever… They must be your PIC, no copyrighted material please! Send them to my email as a jpeg attachment with a brief description of the bird and its personality.
THIS IS NOT FOR PROFIT, I plan to donate my art to the Pittsburgh PEAC organization to help support parrot adoption. The "winner(s)" of this informal "contest" will receive a print, carving, or sculpture of their PIC.
Please put the word parrot in the subject line so I can tell it from the junk email. I’ll post a PIC of the winning art piece on this site. It will take me a few weeks to gather PICS and do the work, I’m pretty busy these days! I’d like to have it done for the December PEAC seminar.
So go through your PICS or break out your cameras!
Thanks in advance!

Dan this is a great thing your doing! :D Do they take private donations as well? I know many of us like to do our part in helping bird sanctuaries any where we can. Hats off to you my friend. I hope every one here can send a photo or two.

Thanks again.

If you don't mind green birdies then I'll see what I can capture...

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

Melika, GREEN is beautiful, some of my best bird friends are green!

As for donations,absolutely!
Parrot Education & Adoption Center (PEAC) is a non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to educating current and potential bird owners on the proper care of pet birds. Based in San Diego and covering all of Southern California, with chapters in Anchorage , Alaska http://www.akpeac.org/; Cleveland, Ohio http://www.clevelandpeac.org/CMS/; and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania http://pittsburgh.parroteducation.org/, PEAC began operations in 1996. Unwanted or found parrots are accepted at PEAC. They are cared for until adopted to qualified applicants. For more information, or to make a donation, go to any of their sites. Any size donation (which can be done through PayPal) is greatly apprediated!

To get an idea of how dedicated and important their work is for these unwanted, abused, and neglected birds, read the part of my post about just some of the birds, at least the lucky ones that have made it to the program. http://www.indianringneck.com/board/vie ... highlight= Scroll down to my post reply; subject, Norma Jean is home.

UPDATE

Post by BigChicken »

Already got several nice PICs! I wanted to mention, please send them as attachments in separate emails, if you send a bunch together, they get compressed and loose definition. Also, full body shots are best, action shots are good as well, as long as they are not too blurry. Don't worry about the background either, I can paint them in a forest if your garbage can be seen in the background! I'm going to post a few examples of my artwork here in the lounge.

Thanks to all for your help!

coming to a close...

Thanks so much for the PICS! I received quite a few beautiful shots. I have made a change in my little informal contest. (I can do that, it’s my contest!) Rather than doing a carving or sculpture and a single painting, I have decided to paint several of the PICS.
I paint several of the components of the scene separately, scan them, and use photo editing software to combine them. There is so much time “watching the paint dry” when painting with water colors that this technique will allow me to have so much more done for the next PEAC meeting. Whatever I don’t get done for then will be finished in the following week or two.
Rather than sending the winner a print, I am going to send a high resolution attachment of all of the paintings. They can print them, use them for greeting cards, wallpaper or what ever.
I have narrowed it down to 5 PICS so far. I think I’ll have time for one or two more, so if you have a great PIC you would like to submit for consideration, please hurry! I’ll keep it open until next Saturday.
PS. Melika, still waiting for one of your little guy!
