Hi glenn
Thanks for correcting the mutation naming... can you share some links of some mature birds of this mutation i.e. the ones with red.

So one year later and what have we learnt ?

So far I have identified to the following mutations that have produced Red IRN's

1) AMD Pied
2) Clear Tail
3) Ino
4) Pallid

Anyone know of any other mutations that large quantities of red have occurred ?

Peter

OK lets get this thread going with some pictures of my Red birds.

And to short cut some of the questions:

* They are alive and did not die after 18 months
* They have all gone through the 2nd molt
* No deficiencies
* We are 3 generations down the line (the babies are red and the chicks from them are red)
* We have red in 3 different mutations ( AMD Pied, Ino, and Pallid)

That is great achievement. Well done Peter!
What else could you share with the rest of the breeders?
As you can imagine everyone would have lots of questions and would love to see more pics.

Hey Ben,

Here are the results of a little experiment we performed.

Tail feather form one of the babies

Image

Tail feather bashed repeatedly with a hammer

Outcome of the experiment is that this is not some sort of structural mutation, but in fact red pigment as the color intensified when the feather structure was destroyed.

Dear prodigy;

Are these Inos SL or NSL or both ? Do we get red in green series birds or blue also ?

Thanks

Hi Sherjil,

The Red appears to be dominant the same as a Violet or a Grey, we have red in SL and NSLino.

In the green series it is a red and in the blue series it comes up as pinkish color.

Some pic's of new baby Pallid hens.

Peter this is a beautiful looking bird & thanks for sharing the snaps :)

Correct me if I am wrong , below are some questions from the red bird experts :-

0) Can you tell the origin of this mutation; how did it first appear ?
1) Red is a "patterned mutation" & doesn't mask the whole body (like violet or dark factor etc), true or false ?
2) Red pattern remains throughout life ? any progressiveness or decrease with age ?
3) If dominant there must be SF and DF birds ? any reference snaps ?
4) Snaps of adult birds ?
5) How does Red show on a normal green bird ?

Regards;

Sherjil

Hi Sherjil,

0) Can you tell the origin of this mutation; how did it first appear ?

Yes

1) Red is a "patterned mutation" & doesn't mask the whole body (like violet or dark factor etc), true or false ?

We have moved past the pattern and are now focusing on getting a completely red bird

2) Red pattern remains throughout life ? any progressiveness or decrease with age ?

The Red remains throughout the whole life, it actually becomes more the older the birds get (the Yellow bird in the pictures is over 5 years old and its babies are already producing red birds)

3) If dominant there must be SF and DF birds ? any reference snaps ?

We are working on the DF birds at the moment

4) Snaps of adult birds ?

Yellow and the green birds above are adult birds.

5) How does Red show on a normal green bird ?

It shows from birth and looks like the green bird above.

Do you have a pic of a mature Ino w/ red? My lutino has pale red patches on his cheeks and a reddish hue to his tail feathers. Thanks
I am owned by my birds...and I wouldn't have it any other way :D
