Anyone know color of babies?

Post by MGA828 »

Does anyone know what color babies I could get if I paired these two up?

Blue Male X Grey Hen

Not sure about splits, I am going on no splits.

Assuming you have a Grey(Single-Factor) hen....

Blue male x Grey(SF) hen
=50% Blue males and hens
=50% Grey males and hens

However, if the hen is Grey(Double-Factor) then all babies will be visual Grey.

Blue male x Grey(DF) hen
=50% Grey hens
=50% Grey males

How do you use & read the Genetic Calculator 1.3?

Each of the entry buttons on M. Rasek's Genetic Calculator corresponds to a Primary mutation. You have to learn to identify the primary mutations that comprise the most common colors.

Here are common color combinations:

Albino = Blue + Ino
Creamino = Turquoise + Blue + Ino or Turquoise + Ino
visual Violet = Violet + Blue
visual Grey = Grey + Blue
visual Cobalt = Dark + Blue
Turquoise (Single Factor) = Turquoise + Blue
Turquoise (Double Factor) = Turquoise
Lutino = select Ino under the visual column
PallidIno = select Pallid under visual column and select Ino under splits column.

We will make this pairing as an example.

Turquoise cock x Grey hen

A Turquoise cock is usually TurquoiseBlue in its genetics. So under the 1.0 (cock) column, you select:

1. Turquoise
2. Blue (under the splits to column)

If you are sure that the cock is a pure Turquoise specimen (aka Double-Factor Turquoise), then no need to select Blue under the splits column.

A visual Grey bird is a combination of two primary mutations, namely Grey and Blue. So to annotate the hen under the 0.1 column,

1. Select Grey under the SF column or DF column depending whether you have a Single-Factor or Double-Factor Grey. SF Grey is more common.

2. Select the Blue button under the Visual column.

Select the Show Genetic Code button on the bottom. Then click on Generate.

If you punched it in correctly, you should have generated the following results:

TurquoiseBlue cock x Grey hen
=25% Grey Blue (visual Grey) cocks and hens
=25% Blue cocks and hens
=25% TurquoiseBlue cocks and hens
=25% Grey TurquoiseBlue cocks and hens

If you notice, you are required to have some knowledge of genetics to be able to accurately punch the selections on the gencalc.

Don't hesitate to ask if you need any genetic question explained.

I see what I was doing wrong now. I was just punching in the colours like Blue male & Grey hen  (doh!) & my results was obviously different lol.

This genetic stuff is way more confusing than meets the eye.

Thanks for the explaination & demo. It is much appreciated :)

Will have a play around with the calculator later, who knows, might actually be able to answer a colour question and get it right!!!!!........one day lololol

Thanks for the genetic question explaination invite. Will probably be bugging you for quite awhile with them lol
(You have opened up a can of worms now Jay :P  )

It's okay really :D . I've been doing this for a while and I actually enjoy educating newbies.

Go ahead and punch in this pairing and tell me what results you get. I'll tell you how you did later. Anyone please feel free to enter your gencalc results as well.

Blue male x Lutino hen

By the way, the default color is Green so to enter a Green bird, no selection is required.

Hi,

Hope you don't mind me jumping in as well! I'm eager to learn all this stuff too :D

Blue Male x Lutino Hen

100.0% green /blue ino cocks
100.0% green /blue hens

Look forward to your results pinkdevil!

lol this is like being back at school doing exams lol. So nerve racking lol

Ok I entered the pair and I came up with......
100% green/blue ino males
&
100% green/blue hens also.

On the genetics code in the results, what does this mean bl+/bl;ino+/ino; & bl+/bl;? Does the "bl+" represent green?

MGA,

Didn't intend to hijack your thread so we are continuing the GenCalc topic on a different thread http://www.indianringneck.com/board/vie ... 4515#44515.

Thanks.
