Question on chick sizes

Post by Shalah »

I have posted on the Moustache Parrot forum but as the recent posts are not all that recent I thought I would pose the same question here seeing as the moustache parrot is so similar to the ringneck. Basically, one chick appears to be much larger than the others and Im wondering how normal this is.

Are you certain the hatched on consecutive days? Eggs are usually laid every other day and if the hen begins sitting full-time with the first egg, then skips a day or two and lays the others, I would expect the size difference. Even if they hatched consecutively, the size difference isn't abnormal between chicks. The eldest looks perfect for 2 weeks.

I've been called 'birdbrained' before, but somehow I don't think this is what they meant. say:hah-nay

thank you for the reassurance. They were definately a day apart. The are now 21g, 35g, and a burley 95gms. At least the larger one gives the small ones the additional body warmth they need. The 35g one has now opened its eyes as well
