Breeding Season

Post by RingneckGuy »

When is breeding season? I can’t wait for my Ringnecks to breed! I live in southern California. What is the incubation period what how long does it take for the chicks to grow and eat?

Thanks

Breeding

As I remember correctly, Ringneck season begins in late December or early February in Southern California. It really depends on the parrots. Some might even breed earlier if the lighting is adjusted to the right condition. I however choose to breed outdoors, so it’s safe to say later December or February.

Incubation period is about 23 – 25 days. The female will lay her eggs inside the nesting box, while the male keeps guard outside. An egg is laid every other day until the clutch is complete.

The mother will feed and care for the chicks until they fledge which is about 9 – 10 weeks. It’s during this time that the babies learn to eat and explore their environment.

Hope this helps
