Hi there,

Firstly, when we talk of 'grey' birds, we are referring to the blue series grey. You can also get green series greys which are called greygreens, (this colour is OFTEN mistakenly named olive, because visually it presents as this colour, but a true olive is a dark green bird with violet flight/tail feathers, if I remember correctly!).

Anyway back to your question, so SILVER is a blue series grey, or greyblue combined with the cinnamon mutation. We are waiting for our silver, aka grey cinnamon baby to become fully weaned before we can bring her home from the breeders. Very excited :D

Here are some links to pics that show difference between grey and grey cinnamon:

Hope this helps :)

Hi kingkong,

Yes, you are correct - it's generic name is called silver, the correct mutation name though is grey cinnamon, it is a grey(blue series) bird combined with the cinnamon mutation.

Sadly, the wee one became sick after some bad weather here in Western Australia, while still being weaned by the breeder. After 5 days of isolation and care, she passed away. It was very upsetting, but at the recommendation of the breeder, we managed to source a violet DNA sexed hen from another breeder. We brought her home 2 days ago and she is settling in well, although our mature blue male has yet to decide if the new addition is a good thing or a bad thing, lol :lol:
Time will tell :)

Thanks fi - yes, it was pretty heartbreaking for us, as we had already met her at 5 weeks old, and got to cuddle her. But that is the way of nature, and we have to wonder if perhaps it was fate that we end up with a violet girl, as originally we were thinking violet before we came across the cinnamon grey.

And yes, our Pepper is just beautiful! Pretty sure she is only a single factor violet, but that's ok with us. Here is a photo of her, (her tail feathers have been cut by the breeder - to differentiate between the DNA's hens and cocks - the new ones should grow back after her first moult);

Thanks everyone for the good wishes :) .......unfortunately, it seems our blue boy is feeling, well, BLUE about the new addition :( He does not like her AT ALL!! Poor Pepper just wants to go to him, and be near him all the time, but Mr Cranky-Pants (his new nickname!!) just chases her away all the time, and growls at her, even tries to bite her :shock: :x
And he also seems to think that, although his cage is out of bounds to Pepper, her cage seems to be fair game! He will chase her out of it so he can eat her food, if she's inside with the door closed, he'll cling to the side of her cage, following her around, trying to attack her through the bars, Grrrrrrr!! :x
We had to strip all the toys and ropes of the "playgym" tree branch we made up for him, as he had claimed possession of it, and wouldn't let her sit on it.

Suffice to say, she is becoming bolder now, and starting to stand up for herself, which is good. She'll even go so far as teasing him - we think she likes him to chase her :lol: :lol: :lol: And it looks like she is going to be quite a bit bigger than him when she fills out, so he'd better watch out, cos I reckon he'll get his come-uppance one of these days, and sooner rather than later! :D

Other than an obnoxious future mate, Pepper is settling in well....has the house mapped out already, is super active, (loves flying from one spot to another), eats like a horse, and is starting to get quite vocal, testing out her sounds :)

We can only hope, that given time, Skittles will come 'round, and stop being so grumpy. Until then, they are both watched with eagle eyes when out of cages together, but we are also alternating time out of cage with each, so they get some one-on-one interaction with us. Pepper is still timid of us, but she has just started occasionally taking a piece of apple from us......so making a little headway there :)
