Hi all,
I was looking out the back door today and saw my pair mating as usual of late,
2 minutes later all my birds where going nuts.
my grey female hen killed her partner
i am the 3rd breeder to have her an that is the 4th cock bird she has killed.
she will have to go.
it looks as though she has also paired to the male in the cage next to them.
i was thinking last week of getting rid of her as they where fiting alot in the past two weeks.
too late unfortunatly.
He was 18 months old and mature there second year together he was blue cinnimon.
so frusterated.
ta glenn

Re: Gutted!!!
Hello Glenn,
(Still havent gotten my coffee)
FOUR?! YIKES, that was very unpleasant ~
My sincerest condolences. Those poor poor males
I am glad you will be parting ways with her, and she
has no idea how fortunate she was.

Scary! I'm so sorry. How awful. Is there anyway you can know if this is going to happen? My two fight sometimes but I've heard horror stories like yours before and it's very scary.
Sounds like that hen needs to live on her own!

Re: Gutted!!!
Hey Ellie,
She is by far the most agressive ringneck i have ever seen/had.
She was fine last season when they where introduced and they mated and layed but he was fertile yet.
As soon as he started to get the ring she started to turn on him.
I must admint i could see it getting worse and was going to seperate them this weekend
thats why i am so frustrated more with myself for not doing somethig sooner.
Anyway thanks all for the responses.

Re: Gutted!!!
Glenn, I am so sorry to hear that. You can't blame yourself for bird behavior. They are so unpredictable. My blue cinnamon and violet green are still sitting on eggs and they have always been really nice to each other. My turquoise and his mate don't have anything to do with each other, just live in the same flight. They occasionally fight but mostly just leave each other alone. Just like people they are all different. It is mating season here so that might be why they occasionally squabble. I feed them treats with my hand and she gets jealous if he gets one first. I love these birds but they can me mean sometimes.
I always enjoy your advice and Recios too. I have learned so much from your answers.
Thx, Rosemary

Re: Gutted!!!
wow everyones having problems!
so sorry you lost them. its not fun to put so much work and effort into your birds to have it all undone by one angry little bird.
