hi they are young and inexperienced, what is the size of their nest box? that may be why she did not go back in to attempt to lay the second egg.

Best of luck, I hope they are fertile (so males so young do not always fertilise the eggs) normally from 2 years old the success rate goes up, but hopefully he is doing his thing!

and what makes you say the egg is fertile? How are you able to tell?

It is impossible to tell if an egg that has only just been laid is fertile, it takes a number of days before you can candle test an egg to tell if it is fertile, hence asking how you know, how were you taught to know?

Might just be that she is young that she had that accident,

in a newly laid egg you cannot tell if it is fertile, for at least i think it is 2 days, or more, the egg will look the same, whether it is fertile or infertile.

So it would be impossible for you to tell, if she laid the egg and it dropped striaght to the ground and broke.

What was the colour of your birds parents?

Otherwise all babies will be blue like the parents, unless the parents are split

would still look blue.

hey, then your babies will be blue, and possibly split for albino if the males father was that colour, and possible green as well if thats what the fathers parents were.

Again - recio and dog glenn are much better at this and will tell u what % male and female and colour and splits etc.

And yes may be too soon to tell in the second egg, and she may be done laying, or just taking her time in laying another usually it is an egg a day or every second day.

Hi

looking at your other photo's your female looks like a grey, and based on the parents, your male should be split to ino. Here are the results I calculate, if I am wrong let me know:

1.0 blue /ino
x 0.1 grey(sf) blue
% from all 1.0
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) blue /ino
25.0% 1.0 blue /ino
25.0% 1.0 grey(sf) blue
25.0% 1.0 blue
% from all 0.1
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) blue ino
25.0% 0.1 blue ino
25.0% 0.1 grey(sf) blue
25.0% 0.1 blue

Hi

If you think the female is blue, the following are the results then:

1.0 blue /ino
x 0.1 blue
% from all 1.0
50.0% 1.0 blue /ino (visually blue)
50.0% 1.0 blue
% from all 0.1
50.0% 0.1 blue ino (Albino)
50.0% 0.1 blue
Calculated on 04 Mar 2011 02:19:54 , Prague

Look at you go Shane coming along nicely!

Those calcs are correct.

And to Kenny the egg on the 27th give a few more days and candle again.

They dont lay every day it will vary from to 1 upto 10 days.

Thanks Glenn
Sorry i have been busy with new family member.

thanks glenn.

Still trying to get the hang of the calc. I think I have figured it out with the basic calcs, just not the more difficult ones.

So basically as I said earlier, the babies will all be visually blue.

:-) and there seems to be a problem with uploading pics, keeps telling us

Sorry board attachment quota reached

Is that what it told you?

Any more eggs yet?

Wish it was breeding season here! Still have 6 months to wait till spring.

Has someone told Imran about the board quota? I imagine he is the one who will be able to fix it?

Ellie.

P.S. Shane, are you thinking about breeding Nemo - just wondering, cos you seem to be having fun with the gencalc. Also waiting for an updated picture of Nemo when you get time... and when the board has quota again!
