bad mum?

Post by xx_sheena_xx »

i have had my pair of IRN's for over 2 years now.
they have bred both years, one clutch they had 2 eggs and the other clutch they had 3.
the female has only managed to ever hatch one baby and it died within 3 days.
all the eggs have been fertile so i think its the females fault.
will she ever become better?
i also have a female cockatiel that i hope will breed this year, if it and the IRN had eggs at the same time could i put the IRN eggs with the cockatiel eggs?
would a cockatiel be able to sit on IRN eggs and raise the baby until 2 weeks old?
any help would be greatly apreciated :)

There is a breed of bird, (can't remember which one though....sorry), that some breeders use as surrogate parents. Apparently these birds accept almost any egg or chick.
I am not sure about a tiel. I am guessing the hen would accept the eggs, not to sure on what would happen when the chick hatches, as an IRN chick would make different baby sounds to a tiel chick. I guess it is up to the individual bird.
If the tiel hen did accept the ringies eggs as hers, you might need to closely monitor if tiel chick and ringie chick hatched around the same time. Just to make sure they are ok and both being fed.

It's not an eccy that I am thinking of, just can't remember what it was. I think it was a smaller bird. Might come to me one day lol.
