Hi Justin Please don't give up on Oliver. You've only had him for 6 months. That's a very short time in a birds life. Are his wings clipped? If not, get an experienced person to do this. Make sure you don't reward Olivers biting by yelling at him. He'll think it's funny, and will bite simply to hear...

I use 'AH-AH!' for my birds... In fact, it also stops my grand children in their tracks. Of course, my ringneck is a different kettle of fish, but he does stop for a milli second, where I get time to say 'gentle' and 'good boy' and give a treat... Duke, my Green Cheek Conure, came to me after being ...

I clicker train all my birds, but haven't started with Paulie, yet, as I said. By the look of it, he's going to be a pleasure to train. It took me a month and a half to teach Duke, my Green Cheek Conure, to retrieve.. It was soooo frustrating. He could do so many diffirent tricks, but I could not te...

Paulie retrieving
I haven't started training Paulie, yet, because he still doesn't take treats really well... Anyway, the last few days he's starting to teach himself to retrieve to my hand. I have him on his playstand on my filing cabinet next to my computer desk. He'll grab a foot toy, come to the edge, hold it til...

Hi Fleur You have already done the appropriate things to get them to know one another. I would try and put them together. Put Peanut in with Macca for a little while and see how they go. You may have to get out of sight, as one of the birds could be too confident with you there. They are unlikely to...

Paulie does that as well... I've had him since late October and got him as a baby. I walk around all the cages and give everyone a treat. When I get to Paulie's cage, he tilts his head back, bottom up and tail down and my daughter says he sounds like a monkey. He will not reach out and grab the trea...

It looks like it's just one wing clipped, and not just the flight feathers.
The bird needs to have both wings clipped equally, in order to maintain balance, when its gliding to the floor.
Here a site which shows a great way to clip:

At 8 weeks he probably still need handfeeding. If he's been forced weaned he could have behaviour problems. My IRN was 8 weeks, when I got him, and I kept feeding him twice a day. After a week, he no longer wanted the morning feed, but I continued with an evening comfort feed for another couple of w...

Yep, I always have to be on top of my kids, when they visit... I don't want my birds to pick up on their swear words. English is my second language, so swearing - especially in English - doesn't happen with me. My Quaker - Shrek - says a polite 'thank you!' when I put a treat in his bowl. Paulie, my...

Hello again... Well, I never did get an Alex A few days later, a man contacted me about a Corella (BE2), he needed to rehome. He came to my place with the bird, so I could meet him, and I agreed to take him in. He had only had him for 4 months (impulse purchase) and he came with 2 brand new cages an...

Hi from Australia - Getting a male Alexandrine
Hi there I just joined this forum. I'm getting a male Alexandrine, and would like to know more about them. I have read a lot on the net, before I decided on one, but a forum such as this is better, I think. He could be a long time coming, because the egg isn't laid, yet. The breeder reckons he'll be...
