Don't have an alex, but- Sometimes the treat changes depending on what your bird loves that day. The best way to figure it out is simply to try using the treats. If the bird stops even trying, then that food isn't motivating him and you try something else. Regardless, you'll typically want something...

Re: 7 week old indian ring neck. have had for 1.5 days
How is he doing? It is a good idea with any new bird to cover the cage on three sides, only leaving the front open. This can make a bird feel safer in a new environment, giving him/her somewhere to hide. If you are going to "come around the corner" so to speak and might surprise him, you w...

Re: How Can I Stop My Young IRN From Biteing!
These questions are always difficult to answer because it all starts with figuring out why he is biting. Is it simply he doesn't know his boundaries? When Hane was young, if he nipped me like that, I would simply shut the cage door (don't say anything, because it can be attention) and turn my back o...

In that instance, I would probably just let the chick be raised by the parents, and take him/her a few times a day for human interaction. But that's a personal choice. :) I hope that topic helps. Every bird is an individual. You won't know until you try. Just keep in mind, if a cockatiel can literally pull the beak off of a budgie, what kind of damage could a grey do to an IRN? Or what might an aggressive IRN do to the toes of a reclusive grey?

I don't dare let Hane near my face. While he has never actually drawn blood, it's too big a risk for me to take. He will pluck hair and put holes in my clothes, so I'd rather it not be my skin. You can try warming or cooking some of the foods he turns his beak up to. Or chopping into small pieces, etc. Just change how it is presented. Sometimes this helps. If you're trying to get him to eat something new, you have to not give him foods he already likes at the same time. Otherwise, as you'v...

There's a lot of argument among breeders about that. Some people increase veggies and some people believe firmly in high-energy pellets. I can't give you a definitive "this is the right thing to do" answer. Sorry.

Does soaked and sprouted sunflower seeds have more nutrients too? Wessel All soaked or sprouted seed will have more nutrients than a dry seed. Sprouted will have more than soaked. But soaked is a step up from dry seed. Lately all seed given to Hane (and even the chickens) is at least soaked. http:/...

Yup! Soaked and/or sprouted.
I'm sure they are fine dry, but Hane doesn't like small seeds unless they are at least soaked overnight so that they swell up. Soaked seed is also higher in nutrients, even if not sprouted yet, so it's a win-win.
