Hi liljo The caution you've described is normal. It is definitely related to fear. It is good that your bird feels it can fly away even when clipped because otherwise your bird may bite your boyfriend. Your boyfriend needs to concentrate on making Roscoe feel comfortable and safe whilst he's around....

The only time I've seen tail feathers like that is when a bird is around lots of other birds that pull out tail feathers. If your bird with others? Overall, it doesn't look normal to me but this isn't my area of expertise.
