occasional biting?

Hi All Any tips for a biting bird? Janey is turning two soon... and usually she is very loving, begs for pats, does tricks, etc. However, she's not the type of bird that you can do anything with. What I mean by that is I see some birds that will allow you to almost grab them, flip them over, and wil...

Re: How often do Ringnecks poop?

Hi Mick Not sure on the frequency of pooping... but I as far as I can tell it doesn't smell. If you have a tame ringneck, they do poop all of you... however, I know of some people that have managed to train their Indian Ring Necks to poop in certain places using positive reinforcement. I haven't man...

Re: All three ringnecks

I loved the video Imran. Thanks for sharing. What smart, beautiful, healthy birds. The feeding from a spoon training is a great idea. I'm trying to train ours to be happy when being held in a towel to prepare for vet's visit but I'm finding it slow going.

Re: hello!

Another idea is, you could have a plate of food, (fruit etc), and see if she comes down to share what you are eating. I have noticed a trend with ringies, they all LOVE their food and if you something, THEY have to have it to. What a great idea! We usually get Janey and Charlie to "go to...

Re: hello!

Hi billimacrose I don't think there is a problem with the way you are going about interacting with your bird... however, it is going to be a long, slow process. Clipping her wings will speed up the process but I understand that you may want to keep him/her flighted. If you introduce him/her to a var...

Re: Tap dancing....???

Just wondering... I once read that using cooking spray or teflon coated cookware could poison birds. After reading this, we went out and bought stainless steel fry pans, etc. and got rid of the non-stick stuff... Someone mentioned earlier that maybe the bird was experiencing poisoning... Is it possi...

Re: Hooley Dooley!! What a tantrum!!!!!!

Just wondering, is it only females that crouch down low and do the clucking? Our female does this for both me and my husband and likes us to pat her. Thankfully, she only regurgitates to our 8-month old male. Our male doesn't do this kind of behaviour? Does that mean he probably never will? Is it a ...

Re: Cant get him to not fly away from me...

Hi Crisco IRNs get their ring at about 2 years of age (I think). Although, I just read this post from OliveIRN and they say: "As for the ring, it can appear as early as when the bird is 1 and a half years old but will be fully visible when the bird is three years old." which I think is pro...

Re: From SA to NT and back to SA again!

One of the things that amazes me is that although our birds exhibit individual behaviours.... so many of them seem to be the same... just because they are the same breed of bird. Welcome to the forum. One of our "baby's" peculiarities is that she hates toys with bells in them... can't stan...

Re: Hello from Queensland, Australia

Thanks for your reply. You do a great job with this forum. If Janey is coming into breeding mode should I be doing anything special for her? eg. provide a nesting box and nesting material? Yesterday when I took them both to watch some tv, they normally spend time climbing all over me but yesterday J...

Hello from Queensland, Australia

Hello I live on the Sunshine Coast with my husband and our two IRNs: Charlie & Janey. We love them to bits and can't imagine our lives without them. Sometimes, I think they are our children. Janey is the oldest (almost 2) and she has learnt to talk... a little... There aren't too many people who...

ideas for reducing anxious screeching?

Hi All We have 2 IRNs. The oldest one (Janey - blue IRN) is almost 2 years of age and the younger (Charlie - yellow IRN) is about 8 months old. I didn't know much about IRNs when we first got Janey but after reading some bits and pieces about them, I think we may have brought her home when she was t...
