Here is a youtube video of a untame IRN. It is listed as 'negative reinforcement' but it is not as in a punishment form. Instead of rewarding with treats of food, toys etc, the bird is rewarded with a different approach. Not sure if this would be any help to you or not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?...

Re: What happens when drough breaks....

Thanks Ellie. We are not as bad off as were Julie is though. Most of the water has drained away at the house.
But the river has come up partially flooding the local caravan park which had to be evacuated and some main roads are cut off out of town.

More rain hit here starting late last night and continued for most of the day until the last afternoon storm hit dumping heavy rain. Weather has a flood warning and issued more storms with heavy rain tonight.

Here are a few pic I took between rain.

Hiya and welcome aboard. :) When I give fruit and veg to my birds, I sometimes cut up various small amounts and place it in a bowl, other times I thread onto a fruit kabob and hang it in the cage. Breeding season has pretty much finished now.
If you have a large aviary, you may be able to house them together, or you could wait till May/June next year and try introduce the hen with a male then.

Put some yummy treats in the bowl and a couple of bright coloured foot type toys or small toys that will sit in the bowls easily. That may get their attention, with mine it does anyway. I guess after 1o years of drought, it has finally broken, and in a big way! We have had rain almost daily for over a week now, and close to 8 inches or so. This is the result of that rain...... Re: How are Ringnecks sexed at a young age?

One of my male birds developed his ring at 3 years of age. Another way some birds can be sexed at such an early age is through 'nest sexing' where if the full mutations and splits of the parents are known, the colour of the chicks can determine the sex. For example, I have a grey/ino male and a blue...

I think from memory, I had the bracing on for aprox a week or bit longer. Keep an eye on the band that it does not wear the skin on the legs from constant rubbing. That is where a makeup sponge is good as it it very gentle on the skin and can be replaced when dirty. Once the legs start to 'heal' the...

If it smells really bad, maybe you could replace the nesting material with fresh nesting material. I do find the nest does get an odour to it from all the droppings.
Just wondered, has the inside of the nest been wet at all? Maybe there is a bit of sourness or mould?

It is hard to try and guess what, if anything, could be wrong with your little one. Is he going through a moult? The best I would suggest is, if you are concerned healthwise about him, take him to a vet for a health check just to be on the safe side.
