I read somewhere that IRN's don't start talking properly until they are mature. Sanjay says Wot? and imitates a lot of sounds, but he is not physically mature yet.

Sanjays a wuss with donut treats, he loves the Globe grapes, big purple ones with huge seeds inside, but, ahem, we have to half peel them!. He is distrustful of new perches, but loves new toys, who knows what goes on inside those little feathered heads !.

Colour Change
Sanjays outer tail feathers have changed, literally overnight from green to a beautiful aquamarine!, his daddi noticed it first. Also, Sanjays britches have changed from green to lutino, is this unusual?, We are wondering if his Arcadia lamp is responsible.

Sanjay loves a seed bell, he demolished them at first, but now they last so long we have to remove the remainder after a while. The only thing against them is the sunflower seeds, which are quite fatty, but as Sanjay prefers his fresh foods to seed bell, he doesn't demolish them in one go anymore.

We bought Sanjay a giant splash parrot bath, he refuses to go near it, he much prefers a shower with spray bottle with a drop of organic rose water and glycerin added. Sanjay also likes to wash his face in his water bowl.

If you remove the food while he is out, then replace it with fresh food he will start going back in when he is peckish. Also, persevere with offering treats through the bars, I used walnut halves and it wasn't long before Sanjay was demanding them.

I got Sanjay at 8 wks but because he was parent reared he was weaned. Sanjay had a nursery cage, he would not eat for the first day or so due to stress, but he drank. I would never feed fungi, it is not part of any birds natural diet. Tomatoes and potatoes are related to deadly nightshade and toxic. A Quaker is another breed of parakeet, and a parakeet is a small parrot.

Sanjay and his new perch
We bought Sanjay a shower perch, not for the wet room, but to stick on the window, we thought he would sit and watch the world go by. Ooh noo!, he dive bombs and gives it verbal abuse instead. In fact we think he gets more play value from the window perch, than all his toys put together.

This comes as no surprise to me. Years ago we had a neighbour with a pair of Macaws who had total freedom every day and who flew home each evening. I also remember my late mother leaving an escaped budgies cage out overnight and in the morning there he was on his swing, butter would'nt melt!.

Hmm, it does'nt allow much time for training/ bonding, or for trying to get a very hyperactive bird back into its' cage. You may also find you have a self harmer ( feather plucker) because the chickster will be lonely and bored. I do'nt know if you would be better off purchasing a bonded pair. Maybe...

Without a post mortem we can only speculate. A genetic defect?, pesticide?, they say the only way to remove pesticide from carrot is to peel them. I am very saddened by your news, if it was me, I would have a post mortem done to set my mind at rest,, rather than wonder for years to come.

We were in dogs for over 30 yrs, the only thing a Samoyed will work for is food, no reward no co operation. They are almost impossible to heel train. Is it cooler outside?, the darker plumage may be growing to keep her warm. Sanjay seems to have become much lighter since I got him.He was aviary hatched and emerald green at 8 wks, an indoor companion he is 2 and a bit now, and almost lutino in places.

Yes, and when I spray Sanjay I add a drop of pure glycerin and a drop of pure rosewater to the water, as they are skin conditioners and help with excess powder and prevent scaly foot. Then I dry him with a hair dryer set on cool, he absolutely loves it!.

Sanjay has a braided leather parrot toy which he loves, he likes anything with knots he can untie, and anything with a large bell he can ring for service. He also likes tassels, and cat toys made from bundles of feathers which he preens. I give Sanjay willow twigs to chew. He is'nt keen on foot toys...

I love a feisty independent intelligent pet. That is why our dogs were GSDs' and Samoyeds. I think it demeans an animal if it has to grovel to its' owner. If someone cannot bond with an IRN maybe they need a polyester pet

O yes, IRN's certainly do moult!, we usually find a wing feather here, a tail feather there and lots of little fluffy feathers everywhere. If he is plucking, try and get grapes that have seeds. Try a spray to deter him or ask your avian vet for an Elizabethan collar. He may be bored, increase foraging, and finally, purchase a tub of "Feather Up".

If you mean sweetcorn (maize) , no it is not fatty, and Sanjay has cobs of it hung up in his cage frequently. Yes, they are, so I always remove them. Sanjay does'nt rate cherries tho', he prefers fruit rich in seeds, i.e Raspberries, Blackberries and Pomegranite, but OO! These Gooseberries!.

There is a spray you can buy to stop feather plucking, he may be preening her too zealously, but you need to make her tail feathers unappetising while she still has them!.

I think you should seperate them for a while, You say they do'nt sleep, but, do you cover the cage at dusk until morning?, they are supposed to get 12 hrs sleep. I hope this helps.

I do'nt know the answer but I can advise on treating the eye, a drop of vitamin A oil twice a day, it comes in capsules, heals a scratched cornea rapidly.

Sanjays favourite foods have a new rival, Gooseberries. I found them on sale on our market today and thought I would try him with them. All else is being ignored as he gorges on the seedy soft pulp. Mm mm!
