Its hard to say because it would depend on the personalities of the birds. Some irns dont get along with any other birds and then some get along with every other bird.I would definately reccomend having a backup plan just incase they dont get along.

I would wait and see how the one you already have works out. If they want to breed they will find a way box or not.I had a male and female in a quarantine cage, all that was in the cage was a perch and food and water bowls and they were mating right in front of us,they had a clutch that year.

I use bicarb soda and vinegar (white) on my cages ect,the bicarb reacts with the vinegar and bubbles making it heaps easier to get the gunk off. for the cage bars i put the (dry) bicarb powder on first and then spray the vinegar from a spray bottle onto it.

I also think because some people see the very tame irns that people have and the ones that talk,do tricks ect and they think I want my bird to do that. They dont realize that it takes time and effort and sometimes our blood shed to get the birds to that point.

I say yes get him/her. From what you described the bird sounds perfect and should make a great companion with a little time and effort from both of you. Give him time. The poor thing has just been taken away from the only safe place he knows. You need to let him know that you arent going to hurt him. Start off by leaving him in his cage and do the normal household things you do and let him see whats going on,this way he will be less likely to freak o...

I'm not expert, but my thought is that your birds was as a pair before... and you want to separate them then. It helps to have some food or something they like to get them to actually want to come to you, things in packets that get their attention or some other thing they really want to have.
