Re: Need help!
No tact, huh? Well, I suppose, maybe less than could be. Sorry. I meant to say, The first thing I would suggest is to stop putting your hand where the bird can bite it. When you are reaching in like that, it's too close for Birdie's comfort, and s/he's letting you know. In the long run (and even the...

Re: YUCCA PLANTS, SAFE OR TOXIC???
I think we may have noted this problem before - lists get reproduced and the original source gets lost, and there are conflicts on the status of the same thing on different lists. It really makes me err on the side of recklessness, to be truthful.

Save effort - google if ANY yucca is toxic. If there's no toxic yucca, saved yourself a bundle of work. If there is toxic yucca, just compare that one to what you have.

Hi Renee, and welcome. My gut says you may be killing him with kindness, so to speak. It sounds like he has a lot of activity. Maybe if you place him in a nice, big cage, against a wall, in a medium to slow activity area of the house (not a no activity area, tho -- too still), treat him gently, and ...

Are those dimensions in centimeters or inches? if centimeters then absolutely not, as it is the smallest cage one could consider for a ringneck, in my opinion. I believe Figit is used to a lot of out time, correct? I found that my two mature birds, upon finding themselves in the same room for the fi...

Maybe you can have a mobile play perch, loaded with a toy or two, a treat bowl, and a clip for a hunk of fresh food. You might be the favourite perch by default. Providing an alternative might help.

Hi. You say he eats all day - probably an exaggeration, But, in seriousness, Is there a good supply of food he will actually eat (you've seen him eat that exact food, not just taste it or play with it) available in morning and afternoon forage time, in particular? I think I'm missing something...

Just secure the area and protect the windows and let him fly. Make sure he has a high-up place to land, one to leave and one to fly to. I protected the windows by hanging curtains, thickish ones, and they were not flat against the glass, so there was some give if he went into them. Neither of my bir...

Cage looks, in my opinion, the smallest that should support irn life. However, to a formerly free range animal, may still be too small, like a trap.

I'm not pro, but I would say yes and no. Your IRN needs some one on one to come up to speed on his basics. You should be training him alone, but also train the other in his sight, even if it's a review for him, on the same skills. I'm a big believer in "training the pack" or the flock. The...

I think InTheAir makes an excellent point about expectations. Do you really need your birds to bond most strongly with you, or are you content to just be in their lives, as it were? I am *SO* just thinking out loud here, but have you checked to see if there is any irritant in the feather area? No, if the bird were plucking you would know. I just feel that some people have had birds who manipulate the feathers in this area. I think it should be monitored in case there is any increase in the attention the bird pays to this spot. I rejected a bird, in part, for feathers that were curled in t...

I understand the vet might not want you to handle the bird as well as their self during the visit, and I hope that's the extent of their not wanting you to touch him. I must opine you have the right and obligation to be able to handle your own bird on your own circumstances. If he gets out and simpl...

I think you should review the concepts of dog clicker training, which is a form of operant conditioning. Google for either one.
