Giving up so soon? Let me give you a different perspective. Imagine you’re a young child and you get pulled from your parents. You are then given to new parents and expected to act normal. All your surroundings change and you are frightened. Do you think you would adjust to new parents, a new house,...

Well I commend you for doing your research! Most people purchase parrots on impulse before doing any research. I can tell you that ringnecks are noisy indeed! They start to squawk early in the morning, noon, and before bed time. I am sorry and I know it’s probably not the answer you wanted to hear. ...

Hello Rhonda, Welcome to this forum! I would not handle the eggs because they are extremely fragile and the mother can give you a nasty bite that could make your hand slip and the egg can be smashed. The eggs are pretty transparent and there are two methods to candle IRN eggs. The easy way is to jus...

Hello Carrie, Hang in there! I know it can be hard to get through this bluffing stage. My parrot went through the same thing and it really bothered me— I took it very personal. How could this bird that I handfed turn on me? I was very upset. Don’t worry and please don’t limit your sessions with him....

How do you mean bobbing his/her head? A pretty good indication of a female rigneck is the tilting of the head backwards wile being petted. While tilting her head back, she’ll cluck and pin her eyes. Males do not tilt their heads back, but they just sit there. So I am guessing that’s what you mean by...

Parrots that usually mate with perches, toys, and stuffed animals were usually handfed. I don’t know why handfeds practice this behavior—they just do. The only way to fix this problem is time. You’ll just have to wait till he “gets it right.” Just keep a hen with your male during breeding season and...

They can but it should not be done. As it is, African Ringnecks are more difficult to purchase than IRNs and are not as popular. Mixing the two species would only taint the bloodline making it more difficult in the future to purchase purebred ARN. So I would stay away from this practice. Hope this h...

Hello Lindsey, Yep, Jodie is right. By the sounds of it you seem to have a female Ringneck. Females tilt their heads back and "cluck like a chicken."
