Re: An Unfortunate Event with my Keyboard

I've got a couple of keys missing from the iPad keyboard we bought. At least they're not keys I use regularly. Never found the keys and I'm not totally sure when they did it. You're brave leaving your birds out whilst you're not home. I would like to do it but I won't. I'd be too scared they'd start...

Ooooh, I thought I'd also add that Janey seems more likely to step up for me from the laundry when Charlie is already on my hand. Not sure why... but my Charles is very helpful that way. He doesn't like her being in there either.

Re: What to do with Janey?

Hi AJ Yes, I get a break in hormonal behaviour every year. The behaviour only lasts during the breeding season (about 3 months). If you are not getting that break it could mean that your bird isn't getting the seasonal signals. You can help her with this by letting her go to sleep at sundown and ris...

I thought it was time for a 2014 update. So far this breeding season I've had two bites which is a huge improvement on previous seasons. Firstly, I think you should remove the cockatoo so that he can't get anywhere near them... so that they can't even see him. You don't want your birds to feel fearful. Secondly, do you think the male is plucking the female or doing it to herself or that she is losing them for health reasons? Do your ...

I personally think your bird should have a cage or else he'll probably get into things like chewing electrical cables. He should also have a space to call his own and to feel safe. Get as big a cage as you can and provide lots of enrichment for him.

There are things you can do to make parts of the cage more enticing. I have a coop cup that attaches to the side of the cage. Unless your bird is disabled or sick, I don't think you can get a cage too big for a bird considering the amount of space they use in the wild.

Relationships change from baby to adolescent. If you think of birds in the wild, they go from relying on their parents to becoming self sufficient and then finding a mate. Therefore, if you took on the role as "parent" of this bird, it is natural for it to want to make a break from you. Th...

Clipping your birds wings will not help this problem. I think your problem is that your bird doesn't yet trust you. You need to work hard to build a "trust account" with your bird. You need to go right back to the start and watch your bird's body language carefully when you are anywhere ne...

Babies make a meow type sound. It's their "beg for food" type sound. We brought Janey home at 6 weeks of age and she did this for at least a month after we brought her home, even though she was weaned. We got Charlie a little older and he didn't make that sound. I do recommend a once a yea...

The key to taming your bird is building a "trust account" with your bird. In every interaction with your bird think about if you were your bird and a human who is much bigger than you did this to you, would it make you trust him/her more? Try to avoid things that won't build trust because ...
