Re: How many times? Help needed!
My birds have seed all the time available in their cages. I use Budgie seed with 10% shell grit mixed in and give them sunflower seeds once a week seperately. If the Sunflower is mixed in they throw the rest of the seed out looking for it. Each non breeding pair get half a cup of seed per day. I fee...

I agree with Glenn it looks Turquoise Blue. Which is a nice looking bird. It is actually a Blue series bird with a Green sheen over its body, head and wings. Maybe ask the breeder.

If it is a pure Blue then they should look Blue. It may just be the photo. Sometimes the true color wont show up in a photo it depends on the light. The photo you linked wouldnt open for me.

Re: cobalt irn
I think you would be best starting with a coloured whwt and a split whwt in what ever color you can afford. Greys, Greens and Blues would be cheaper than say Violets or Cobalts and also mature birds would be dearer again. If you did use the Cobalt hen you mentioned you would need a whwt Cock bird to...

Re: double factor birds
Its not a double factor Cobalt. The Cobalt bird has a single Dark Factor. The Bird with 2 Dark factors would be called a Mauve and it looks more like a Dark Grey Color than a Dark Blue. The Turquoise level can vary from bird to bird. Also there is no way of telling the other young are split for Butt...

Like Glenn said both parents had to of been split Buttercup to produce a Buttercup baby. You can not tell the Sex of the young unless you wait till they are old enough for the Cocks to get their ring or you get them DNA or surgically sexed. I get all my young DNA sexed but if you are going to keep t...

In this instance the Color of the young will tell you their sex, but this is not always the case in all mutations.

Re: new chicks
Albino and Lutino are Sex Linked Mutations. Just search this on google.
A few of the mutations are sex linked. There are also the Cinamon and the Lacewing. Once you learn how it works you can use the same formula for any Sex Linked Mutation.

Re: red eyes
It sounds like it will be a Buttercup also known as a Clearheaded Fallow because of the eye color. Splits will have normal colored eyes. If its a Cock bird then the head will turn a cream colour after 2 years of age. This is because of the Pastel factor. No Pastel factor and it would have been white...

Re: is this aviary ok to breed indian ringnecks
I would remove the partition and have one breeding pair. That is roughly the size of my own breeding cages and a good size for a breeding pair during breeding season but not big enough to keep them in all year round. They need around 3 to 4 meters in length when not breeding. I move mine into a 6 me...

Re: New Cage, mesh and nest box advice ^_^
That will be a good size breeding cage. Length is more important than height. The mesh I have on my aviaries is either 12.5mm x 12.5mm or 25mm x 12.5mm in the heavy gauge. I think it is 1.4mm thick wire from memory. You should be able to get it from the hardware store in a 5m roll. If you do get new...

Re: keep together or separate
I would seperate the pairs into their own breeding cages with double wire between the cages if they are to be kept side by side. I keep all my birds in a 6m x 3m aviary when they are not breeding and pair them up at the start of July into suspended cages that are 1800 long x 900 high x 900 wide, wit...

Re: how much for iyr old pair of violets(south australia)
Well a 2010 double factor would be from $800 to $1000 so a year older would probabley add a few hundred dollars. I did see one at a bird sale that was a 2010 one for $600 last week but it wasnt a very nice looking bird.

Re: Green IRN----Turquoise????
Yes it is possible. The Lutino mutation is sex linked meaning the hens will be coloured birds and can not be split but the cock birds can be coloured or splits. It sounds like the breeder has sold you a pair with a split cock and lutino hen which will breed Lutinos in both cock and hens

They will generally mate on the perches in their cage. It may take a few weeks before the hen will lay. She will go into box and rearange the nesting matierial first.

Re: how much for iyr old pair of violets(south australia)
In NSW 2010 Violet Blues are selling for the same price as last year around $450 to $600. I would say if they are 2009 birds and will more than likely breed next year then around $1500 would be about right. Last year 2008 Violet Blues were going for about $1000. Find out about the parents. You dont ...

Yes I would keep doing what you are doing by adding some soft foods for them to try and eventually mix in some seed as well. Keep the box clean and remove uneaten food. Ringnecks do eat seed as the main part of their diet, Supplemented with fresh fruit and vege.

I would get a bigger breeding box at least 30cm x 30cm and 60 cm in height with a mesh ladder or wooden slats for them to climb up and down on inside of the box. My birds breed as it is starting to warm up. Going from Winter to Spring.

The 1st pair is a 12 month old hen and a 3 year old cock. The cock has bred before.
The second pair is a 2 year old hen (1st time) and an 8 year old cock that has bred before.
It just seems strange that it all happend in both nest boxes in seperate cages on the same night.

Thanks for the replies. I have never seen any lizards around here. I dont think it would be lizards or snakes. No blood on any parents and one of the hens is white so it would stand out I guess. What could be happening to my baby ringnecks?
I have 3 pairs of Ringnecks in 3 seperate suspended cages. The first pair laid 5 eggs and have raised 5 babies, all of which are feathered now. The second pair were a month behind in laying but layed 4 eggs and the first 2 to hatch just vanished out the box, egg shells and all. The third one hatched...
