Re: Is this a good seed mix for my indian Ringneck?

Black sunflower seeds are not good for birds. Look for a mix with grey ones instead. If you bird eats lots of black ones they can make the bird over heated and they can die. The black ones are just fine. This is just a myth, don't worry. :) Black oil sunflower seeds (known as BOSS) are actually con...

Food is my solution as well. Hane is usually out with the family in the evening, which also happens to be the time he eats the most. He sits on his stand and pigs out on his veggies and only makes little yummy noises. Does he play with his toys on his own? Foraging is a great thing and something I a...

I do what they do to one another- If Hane bites a little too hard I say "Anghhhhhhh!" with that little grating voice they have and shake the hand he's on. That way he has to catch his balance and let go. He caught on really quick and now I can just say "hey" or slightly rotate my...

Re: Bluffing or territorial behaviour?

Sounds like he's being territorial. For me solving the problem was the opposite, Hane wasn't allowed out unless he came out on my hand. I would use treats or veggies to bribe him so he wanted to come out, but he had to step up. If he bit I just closed the door and walked away. I find he gets a littl...

Hane sometimes hides in his cage too. I find that he just doesn't want to be handled right then. I can come back five minutes later and he'll often run to a front perch in his cage and step up to come out- most times. Other times he just doesn't want to come out for anything. I guess I sorta let him...

Hane's food and water bowls are on separate sides of the cage with no perch taking him from one to the next. This cuts down on dunking- a little anyway. Cage size could be a factor, or perch and toy placement. If the cage is too small or the tail is hitting the bars, they could be damaged. My sister's IRN would bite off the ends of any tail feathers that got bent.

Hane never bit during bluffing. Not that he hasn't ever bitten me, but those were usually errors on my part. For instance he would bite me just a few months ago when I went to pull him from his cage. Hane doesn't fuss so much about red anymore but every once in a while someone with a red shirt will trigger a shout. When he was younger he HATED red. Even toys that had big red parts scared him.

Tsume would freak out if my sister wore her red striped pajama pants.
