He could have a physical problem making him unable to vocalize. I have no experience in that, but I find it hard to believe he would never make a vocalization and have a working voice. A Vet would be able to tell you if you care that much about it.

He should be ok for one night. make sure he has more than one water dish if he has any habit of knocking his over. you could also put a radio on a timer if you are worried about him being lonely. That's a great idea to put the bird in the travel cage to go up to the shower... Fats LOVES the shower. Maybe this would have helped him with his travel cage fear.

Come to think of it MissK, Camo moulted in January of last year very lightly and then has had this tremendous ongoing moult this summer.
The guy who owns the bird store in Columbia, MD mentioned that twice a year is not uncommon.
