I feed roudybush mostly. I have heard zupreem naturals are just as good. My birds love Harrisons too, but it is hard to get here.
No matter what brand it will still be better than feeding seed!

Hi, It is a good idea to get your young bird used to new experiences in a pleasant, forcefree manner. Do use a carrier or harness, even if you choose to clip. We socialised our first bird with a lot of people and took him places when he as young and he is pretty confident with well behaved strangers...

I still want to see that Donovan, in slow motion! She is so cute and funny, she regularly climbs through the curtains that are meant to keep the birds in one area, files to her lampshade and calls. When I come to get her she dives straight to me. We have also been practising flying vertically up to ...

Re: 4 month old IRN biting SOMETIMES ONLY- please read threa
A head is a nice safe place to land when you are an indian ringneck. They can quickly learn that it is more rewarding to land on a shoulder, if they are rewarded for it. It is also a bit easier to land on a head than a shoulder, especially for the young or unco. Both of my birds find my small slopin...

Re: 4 month old IRN biting SOMETIMES ONLY- please read threa
Hi, There are a few things that can cause a parrot to bite instead of step up... The basic reason they bite is because you have ignored the subtle signals that they gave you to say that they don't want to interact that way at that moment. If you listen to the first warning signs and back off, then t...

Does he have a nice big playstand or tree to play on next to his cage that is easy to get to? Let him go at his own pace by leaving the door open and giving him treats. Make sure everyone in the house is calm so he feels secure. Playing some music may make him feel safe too.

There is a really good sticky post in the diet section of this forum with what you can and can't feed. Fruit should be fed in moderation as it is high energy and pet birds don't get the kind of exercise that their wild counterparts get to burn it off.

Ok, so the best way to work with these guys is to throw all your ideas about punishing "bad" behaviour out the window right now and try to adjust your attitude to one of a little prey animal who's only defense is flight or bite. If your bird bites you, it is because it is reacting to somet...

It sounds like you have a healthy, active irn. That is good. 1. Make a really interesting perch, put toys, browse and foraging on it. Make sure the perch has some high branches. If you make the perch cool enough in your ringnecks opinion, he will hang out there when he wants to play there. If you wa...

Oh you poor things! That must be traumatic!
Have you seen a specialist avian vet? It really isn't worth wasting your money on a regular vet, as they have very little knowledge about birds.
Btw washing the bird may stop the blood from clotting (and stay clotted).
Best of luck with it.

Re: Taming an aviary raised IRN that has not been handled
Hi Anne, I strongly advise against handling your bird against its will! By doing so you are disempowering the bird by ignoring it's body language (which is a huge part of how they communicate). This leads the bird to using flight or fight tactics. If you search this forum you will find a lot of good...

The heart shaped wings thing is the mating dance that these birds do. Does he do it towards you or an object? How many hours sleep does he get at night? What is his diet? I recommend taking him a vet. Try to find an avian vet if you can. It would be a good idea to keep him away from other birds until your vet has confirmed what is wrong with him.

My birds were reasonably quiet for the first day or 2 after I got them, but were both very active and never sat on cage floor.

It's interesting to compare docking a tail or ears as a comparison. I'm not sure I agree with that, it doesn't restrict their freedom of movement. Going by memory, which is near the reliability of a gold fish, I believe it is approx 10percent of weight in grams. Ie: 100gm ringneck has 10mls. 1percent is considered the safe maximum to draw from parrots.
