Fostered IRN Beak Abnormality

I received an urgent request late last night to take in a ringneck from our parrot association president. The bird was found on a balcony of a high rise apartment building. It was dark so the condition of the bird was unknown at the time they put the bird in a carrier and brought him to me. When I t...

Overall he doesn't look too bad. He's a beautiful bird!! Not a common color...take very good care of him. That is not stress barring. He's a pied bird I believe. Thankfully he's a baby so any trauma he received now will molt out by the time he's 1. If you'd like to post his pic to the mutations boar...

If your intention is to have a hand reared bird, you will have to pull the bird younger than 5 weeks. If the birds are being sold as hand reared pets, you would need to pull them between 3-4 weeks. If you plan to keep the birds, you can still let the parents raise them, but just handle them every da...

Re: first time babys

How soon are you trying to pull the babies out? If you've never hand fed before I would just let the parents raise the chicks. The babies grow healthier and bigger when parent raised. Do you have a foster? If not, I would just leave the babies in the nest.

Is he fledging? Usually around the time a baby gains his wings he loses a bit of his appetite. It's an internal switch that tells them to lighten the load for liftoff lol. Increase the amount of feeds so he eats more often for about a week and he should go back to normal shortly. If he refuses food ...

Re: Obsessed with being on the floor and dark nooks and cran

What were the hens parents??? If the parent were 1.0 green X 0.1 Ino she could be a pure green. But the chances of her having pure parents are pretty slim so she's probably split to something. Also with the current pair you have sitting, is the green male pure or split to blue? If he's split to blue...

If you withhold a favorite food from their everyday diet it becomes a treat. If you use that treat to lure them back to the cage it becomes a training tool. They soon begin to associate going back to the cage with that treat. Their are ways to discourage nesting behaviors in females that live alone ...

I believe her birds were near the floor because they were looking for nesting spots and ringnecks are cavity nesters. She was looking for advice on how to curb nesting behavior. Pied mutation question

I know this isn't about ringnecks, but I more or less need a mutation experts help here. I'm considering the purchase of this bird based on its uniqueness. It is a 7 month old male eclectus. But has a red mantle where the females would normally have a purple one and some other red markings that are ...

Well, regardless of why your bird has just learned to fly at 6 months, this is my thought on what is happening. Flight for a bird is an endorphins high, an adrenaline rush. Their brains are directly connected to the act of flight. Now imagine for a moment you were at the gym lifting weights. You wer...

Why is your bird only learning to fly at 6 months?

How long have you been letting him out of the cage?

The lutino cock and blue hen will give you green split to blue Ino (albino) males and lutino split to blue hens. With the violet blue male and blue hen it depends on whether the male is a sf violet or a DF violet. SF violet will give you 50% male and female blue and 50% male and female violet blue D...

No water!!! They get all they need from the formula. Feed from the left only. And forget the vet...find a breeder of any kind of bird. If you're nervous about using the syringe, use a small baby spoon and let the bird eat the formula off the tip of the spoon.

The best advice I can give you is to find a local breeder if you can and explain the situation and see if he/she can show you what to do. It's so much better than trying to describe it in a forum.
