Last week my 2yo handraised Lutino hen hatched 2 chicks from her 4 eggs. Unfortunately, both the chicks died in the nest. I am guessing mum is a bit too young and inexperienced along with being her first clutch. So I removed the last 2 eggs from her and placed them under my other Lutino hen, 4 yo Ja...

Welcome Eddie. Yoshis' nail may be a birth defect or it could have been bitten off by parents or aviary mates. Unless your bird is going through a moult, he should not be able to gain hight from having the wings clipped already. Maybe the breeder only did a light clip, removing one or two feathers. If he will take food from your hand, you could try offering food when out of the cage so it encourages him to b...

Re: Help. 6 year old ringneck......right for me????

I don't think a 6yo bird, (or any pet for that matter), is too old to bond. I believe it really depends on the amount of time, energy and love that is put into bonding process. Also compatibility is a must. :) I have read heaps of stories of people giving homes to older birds and have successfully s...

Glad to hear problem is fixed. It is amazing what a change in diet can do. I still have not heard of ringies having the problem, but the video certainly proves otherwise.

Hi
You could always leave a radio on for background noise and foraging toys with hidden treats along with toys would help keep the bird occupied until you were home, :)

If you want to help get him used to the taste of pellets, you could try adding them with the baby mash. Beside what has been said, I find that birds tend to want something more when you have it. When Rafiki has learnt a new word or phrase, it seems to be the "flavour of the moment". Then when that word has worn out its welcome, he begins saying the older words again. Are the antibiotics administered in water?
If so did the vet suggest to hold off watery foods like fruit and veg for a while so he will drink more water?

Fingers crossed he wont need stitches.
