I guess it would depend on the size of the parents. Tangos' parents may have been smaller birds, the blues parents could have been larger, or maybe Tango didn't get as much food as he was growing. All my birds have just gone through a heavy moult. Most didn't even have tails for awhile. They are starting to look more presentable now though.

If you are worried you could take tango to the vet and have him checked over to put your mind at ease, but I to, think it is a moult.

Well done on your little Rocket If he is only 16-18 weeks old, it is way to early for him to even think about getting his ring if he is a boy. That wont show till he is at least 12 months old. DNA or sergical sexing is the only definate way to know for sure at this stage. I have found that ringies d...

Don't know if this is any help to you or not. I was birdsitting a green ringie last week that definately did not want to go back into the cage when it was time. Everytime I went to put her back she fly off (obviously not clipped) so what I did was find her absolutely fav food in the whole wide world...

My aviary IRNs don't seem to care what time of the day/year it is. If it is raining and they want a bath, they do. Even in winter time and it gets chilly here below zero. Some of them like it when I am cleaning their water bowls and want a spray of the hose while others prefer to take a dip when I a...

From what I have read it is easier to tell the difference between the Indian & African Ringneck when they are side by side. The Indian ringie is larger than the African. And something about the colouring of the birds eyes.

From my experience it is the female who is the "top dog" in the ringneck world. So maybe it was the female who did not like the male. I have 2 young boys (almost 12 & 18 months old) in one aviary and they get along just fine, BUT having said that when I had 2 boys and 1 girl in an avia...

Hi Lila,

I have a young Green IRN and her beak is also black like you described. So is her mothers. They are fed a range of fruit and veg along with seed. So I don't think you have anything to worry about :)

I guess they will lay on bare floor even though I have read that it could cause splayed legs in the chicks with nothing for them to grip on as they grow. For my IRN I had a very deep (about 2ft deep) nest box I put about 3inches of nesting material. That way she scratched it about but there was stil...

I have also been told that females are noisier and more agressive than males. I have no experience in this as Jasper is my only tame IRN so have no males to compare. The others are all aviary birds and they are ALL cranky LOL

One way you may be able to tell male from female is the shape of their head. Apparently girls have a more rounded shape then the boys.

This is my girl (DNA sexed so definate) and she has a very rounded head.
