Re: Pionus and Ringneck?
Agreed. I will await DNA results before saying anything public about it, but I've already mentioned it to him. He said 'too bad' basically. There were capslock letters, etc... He puts no value on client service obviously.

Re: Pionus and Ringneck?
I actually mentioned it to him today when asking if he had Alex's.
He said "they looked like males" so he didn't even DNA them. I won't ever buy from him again. Very frustrating.

Alexandrine breeders in Canada?
Hi all, I have an IRN. Looking to get him/her a buddy, but would rather avoid potential mating/competition so looking for an Alex. I'm located in Canada, if anyone can point me to someone with males available. Thanks.

Re: Pionus and Ringneck?
I see that breeder posting regularly on sites to sell his birds, do you think it's fair to warn people that he isn't honest (once DNA proves my IRN is female)? Pako clucks and bends down, with head up like a hen when she sees my cell phone. I have observed no male behaviour. He/she only whistles - n...

Re: Pionus and Ringneck?
When I got Pako, the breeder said it was male. I'm convinced he is a she and I believe I paid more for male. What should I do? I'm not giving him away, but I wanted the black ring, talking etc.
I'm getting a DNA done next week.

Re: Moulting in Feb?
He definitely started a moult. I think his tail feathers fell out because being winter, with the heat on in the house, it was probably dry weakening the root, and the tail is prone to hitting things. But, his clipped wing feathers started falling out too, and growing back, and now he can fly. I'm th...

It's okay, I'm going to get an Alex instead I think. Cheaper, and also probably more suited for compatibility

Pionus and Ringneck?
Thinking about getting a buddy for my Ringneck, and my partner is really set on a Blue Headed Pionus. The Ringneck is 13 months old, and the pionus is still being weaned at 9 weeks. I was told my Ringneck was a male when I bought him, but he definitely does the equivalent of a yoga cobra pose when y...

Re: Moulting in Feb?
No further developments. Pretty sure he must have had an accident. He tends to be a bit careless with his tail. He is not even a year old, so it is probably normal for him to be that way. He is always climbing around and exploring on his cage. Side note: it seems the pretend flying exercises are mak...

Re: Moulting in Feb?
A sight to be seen, hope he can fly soon, he might regrow his flight feathers during the moult Yes, I hope so too. When I had budgies, I always let them fly around. Was disappointed his flight feathers didn't come back last August - hopefully this August they will. The ring around his neck started ...

Re: Moulting in Feb?
We didn't clip him. Unfortunately, he came to us that way. Full intentions of letting his flight feather grow out. Been working out his wing muscles lately with 'pretend flying' (perched on my finger and running around then room, as he flaps his wings).
I think his tail feathers were an accident.

Moulting in Feb?
Hey bird lovers, I've had my IRN for almost a year. He did a partial moult in August. Today, when I came home I noticed three tail feathers had fallen out. Is it too early for him to moult? He has is own room with a window, and for the most part he follows the sun-up/sun-down schedule. He has his wi...

Re: Moving home
My travel experience: I took mine on a three hour flight (+1 hour drive to airport, +1 hour wait time in airport, and 1.5 hour drive away from airport) In the airport, had to keep him in his airline approved carrier - basically a gym back with a mesh window. Had to take him out of the carrier at sec...

Doesn't like to be away from cage
My IRN has been with me for about 5 weeks, and he is 5 months old. I have been doing training with him on a perch, but it has to be close to his cage to pay attention. He will touch a chopstick, kiss my nose, whenever I ask him. He also will step up most of the time. Of course this is all with treat...

I am looking now actually. Keeping an eye on prices. I want to get a large one typically for Greys.MissK wrote:Hey Paco,

Re: Does my IRN have a feather condition?
Hey there Blue Paco, I am also in Toronto area, and Clyde has the same thing, but not to the same degree as your bird, and also the little fluffies as described are floating about. I thought this was just normal, ware and tear and damage to their feathers as they are still babies and don't always l...

Re: Green baby suddenly scared of me ?
This Sunday marks Pako's month anniversary with me. He is about 16 weeks old. I noticed he was starting to nip at me when my hand would go inside his cage for step up, or even on top of cage - he would also run away from my hand both inside and on top of the cage. If he falls on the floor, he is mor...

Re: Does my IRN have a feather condition?
I live in Toronto, Canada. It's summer here now. So far I have only seen him discarding white fluff feathers. No colored feathers have fallen off. I have put white paper towel at the bottom of his cage today, to see I can spot anything. I will look into your spray suggestion and see if it helps. Tha...

Does my IRN have a feather condition?
I just noticed that Pako has some rather rough looking feathers on his tail and one of his wings. I think he is well nourished (loves eating vegetables, fruit, nuts/seeds). So I'm wondering if this is the early signs of a moult coming on, or a sign of something else like mites or lice. I preened thr...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
Interesting find today. After feeding Pako a jalapeño he must have gotten the heat on his face or he actually felt hot after eating it, because he started dunking his head in the water dish. I brought over a big bowl of water and he actually took a bath. I was amazed. He didn't touch the pepper afte...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
I was never one to invest in insurance either.
I think it's a much better idea to save $100/month, in a tax free savings account, and if he has an emergency I can still use it without being taxed.
Observation: every time I use the vacuum cleaner, he chirps, but he doesn't seem afraid.

Thumbs up for this forum. It's really the only one I trust. As a side note for his health, other than any sign he would be sick, so you take your birds to vets for checkups or anything?

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
He seems to be progressing pretty fast already. Today he climbed out by himself to explore. He went to the top of this cage. Played with the windmill, chirped, and he is now eating treats from my hand. He loves hot peppers. My friend says his African Grey eats them all the time. I gave him a bit, an...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
Progress! I moved his cage a little bit away from the window so the back of it is against the wall. Now while I sit on the sofa, his high door faces me. It's always open when I'm home, so he can clearly see me sitting down to eat or working on my laptop. I was doing some whistling to him, and he sta...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
Pinched some romaine lettuce to the side of his cage and he loves it! Thanks for that. Bought some cauliflower. Will try that later too. I've decided I won't try to get him out of the cage anymore and just leave th door open when I'm home, and let him venture out himself. Window blinds are also clos...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
Is it okay that I've been basically making him come out of the cage to play, sit on the top, etc? He's not going to hold a grudge against me or anything is he? The breeder said I should try to interact with him a few times a day to get him to trust me. When i had a budgie, I let him do his own thing...

Re: 12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
1) Does he eat at all, anywhere? Yes, lots. He started eating and drinking LOTS today when I put small 4oz cups (tupperware - BPA free) on top of his cage where he likes to perch and look out the window. I tried putting those cups inside the cage, and lo and behold he ate out of them while inside th...

12 weeks old, Not eating inside cage
Hello, I just got a 12 wk old IRN on Sunday. His wings are clipped so he basically falls if he tries to fly. I'm wondering if letting his feathers grow back fully is a good idea? In the meantime, he doesn't eat from his dishes inside the cage, and only sits on the high perch. He doesn't move around ...
