Well I'm flattered Petey thank you. I've always believed that by really trying to understand other people's perspectives, one can broaden their own mind and understanding of the world. That's such a sad story Poor family. I also agree that a lot of times owners are unfairly blamed. A lot of people a...

I think what the conflict is, is that Donna and I think Petey too, work to rehabilitate birds and they are coming from a different place. These birds have been abused or neglected their whole life and they feel that clicker training is not right for them. They prefer a more personal approach and sin...

I am sorry I made assumptions about your feelinngs, I just don't want anyone to feel that they are being attacked [I guess I've been hanging around scientists too long:)] I know you aren't against training and I certainly know what works for one bird doesn't work for another. What I am trying to fig...

First of all, you are obviously upset and I am sorry that I upset you. Like I said, I am honestly and genuinely trying to see your point of view. I have not worked with aggressive cockatoos, but have worked with aggressive macaws, vultures and other, smaller birds. I never meant to give you the impr...

I don't know how others feel about this, but I would take the mirror out. He will bond to his image (ie trying to feed it) and not you. My bird was not social at all when I first got her. I taught her to step up by first putting her on the floor and , in her case because she has fingers issues from ...

She has this love/hate thing going on with her balls and nothing makes her happier that beating the crap out of them. She would throw them or hit them with her beak and if it came near us we just naturally rolled it back. This turned into a game. Our goal is to roll the ball past her. Her goal is to...

Maybe Fiona is just lazy. When she is in a bad mood and I try targeting, she'll move away from the target, pin her eyes, look at the target, and take it out on a toy sometimes screaming. There's no doubt in my mind she knows what I want. I use very small, soft pellet like treats. As far as our curre...

How do you keep your GCC interested? Fiona catches on really quickly, but gets angry that she has to preform for treats and training sessions only last about 3 min. Do you think this is normal for an IRN? Training usually occurs in my room and I allow her to walk back to her cage when she is finishe...

I clicker train Fiona. So far she is doing great with target training . She will go in her cage when told to and plays ball(we roll the ball back and forth). Has anyone done any extensive training or clicker training with their ringneck?

I am so so sorry. I would die if anything happened to fiona. I hope he's doing better. Don't feel bad if you have to put him down. IRN tetherball & soccer?
So Fiona hates her cat balls (have bells in them), But she love to hate them. We have Made a little tetherball thing for her to play with and she love it! We also play soccer. I roll the ball to her and she'll chase after it and toss it back. I have to roll it pretty fast to get her to miss it lol. ...

I think it totally depends on the bird as Dani said. When fiona's wings grow out, her attitude definitly gets worse, So I keep her clipped. However, I have tamed 'tiels, 'keets and doves w/o wing clipping. In fact I dont think doves should ever be clipped b/c to me they are like giant finches. So it...

even when their wings are clipped, they can get a foot or two off the ground. That is normal. He should glide to the ground. Does he do it a lot? Fiona was flighted for awhile so she really built up her flight muscles so she gets a little higher, but once she learned she couldn't fly anymore she did...

you can buy glass ones also. I use a guinea pig bottle (plastic) and it is on the outside with the nozzle sticking through the bars. Fiona perches on the nozzle and beds over and gets a drink. It's funny. She caught on to it really fast. I just put a bowl under the bottle and made the bottle drip sl...

If it has been flighted for awhile, it's flying musles will be really strong.... this will also allow them to get off the ground. It too depends on how their cut. At the petstore we cut them down to the secondary feathers. Birds usually can get a goo amount os air this way. At the bird specialty sto...
