Storm Talking
It's been a long road from getting Storm at 10 days to this video at four months, he is five months old now, sorry I have been absent for awhile - raising a kid is tough work! http://s1046.photobucket.com/user/pards007/media/StormTalking.mp4.html Video was taken on my phone so not the greatest https...

Re: OMG OMG Need to know now!
Thanks again Shey, hopefully he/she will look more blue as they get older. Just tired of people saying, "Well he doesn't really look blue". I'll just tell them go to the experts on the IRN forums

Re: OMG OMG Need to know now!
Maybe too young still but what color besides garden variety blue would you call this? Not a color wheel expert on IRNs so when people ask me I just say in the blue family. I took two outside one in shade and one in sunlight. I did the hue / sat thing but it looks pink to me (hence kinda blue lol). A...

Re: Pards Photos
Thanks, got a bit busy so took the pics but didn't have the chance to upload. I'll do that today. Busy weaning and taming. Perching and "up" command done. Next weekend will be DNA day. I know he/she is a blue but waiting to see the final shade as it seems a bit darker than most blue ringne...

Yeah we were told that going into it, next up is DNA in a few weeks. The parents of the mother are silver-turquoise and albino, father's side parents unknown.

Re: OMG OMG Need to know now!
Thanks Sheyd, our family was split on color choice half wanting blue the other half violet. I guess we will see the final look as time goes by. I love these birds so I may try my hand at getting a pair next year (big who knows). I'll post more as more feathers come in. Storm is eating like a pig now...

Re: OMG OMG Need to know now!
So here is the link to the photobucket of our IR Storm. We got him/her at 10 days and is now 22 days old. Mom and Dad were both SF violets. We are hoping for a violet but will love him/her violet or not. Any thoughts on the color?

Re: OMG OMG Need to know now!
lol fair enough, all my kids are bugging me every day and I'm not gonna lie, I'm hyped as well. Someday I might try my hand at breeding they really are beautiful birds and fairly easy to rear. Many moons ago, when I was a young strapping lad, I had a few cockatiels that gave me eggs for a few years ...

Re: Choosing a New Cage
That would make sense, I just kept thinking why would you waste those inches, but I was not thinking of the bird standing on the bottom of the cage, I wouldn't.

OMG OMG Need to know now!
Ok, maybe a bit overboard on the subject line. Our IR "Storm" is exactly 3 weeks old today. We were told it should be (in all likely hood) a violet or deep violet with the off chance of blue). We are so anxious to find out the color of our IR so.......at what age should we be able to tell?...

Re: Choosing a New Cage
So after looking at an ungodly amount of cages, I was wondering one thing. Some cages have a really deep area between the bottom grate and the pull out pan. I can see the reason for leaving some room for larger pieces of whatever that falls (don't want birdie eating spoiled food) but on some cages i...

Re: Choosing a New Cage
I read your post on that cage and it became part of my long list of cage comparison. As you stated the chewing through issue may become a problem, Storm is 20 days today and the normal trying to get anything in his mouth phase is in effect so I have no idea if he/she will be chewing. Tough for me to...

Re: What to Feed your Parrot (recipes, toxicities, links too
Didn't see it mentioned but I love to garden and many of the items listed are easy to grow in pots for the people who have no room. Many of the greens like Kayle, lettuce, etc are cold weather crops that I rotate with strawberries, etc,-warm weather crops. Strawberries love to be crowded, so get the...

Re: Choosing a New Cage
I became sssooo dizzy after reading all the posts about cages. Size looks like somewhere around Length 25-30 x 22-25 Width x 35 height for one bird is the smallest anyone will go (of course the caveat is "as big as you can go" goes in there). Bar spacing seems pretty squishy but I would fe...

Re: Hand-Feeding and Weaning
I got Storm at 10 days old and I like using a glass eyedropper to feed, it makes it easier and has less pressure coming out then a syringe, my breeder friend uses the same eyedropper. I bought the eyedropper ar rite aid (CVS has the exact same package). They come in a two pack, one is bent tip and t...

Re: Toys
So after all the research it seems like home depot has just about all you need for any rope toys. I bought some sisal rope, all natural, not sprayed with anything. It came in a 3/8" x 50' (that's right feet) for about $8.00. Buy the smaller size pine or Douglas fir untreated (buying the small p...

New to the forums with a 10 day old baby IR
Hi all, I found a breeder that I not only purchased my Indian Ring neck from but became friends with as well (they are local for us). She has been doing this for over 15 years and recently was unable to do hand feeding this time around. I can't say enough great things about them, wonderful people, w...
