Re: Update on Luna
Yeah it's a big relief. I just wish she wouldn't punch holes in my shirt if she is cranky. Any tips on how to break her of that habit? She doesn't always do it, just if she is irritated. She just put five new holes into an already ruined long sleeve shirt I wear under my scrubs, so she got put to he...

Update on Luna
I am a very happy bird mama! Luna is now past her bluffing stage, and we are doing great! She comes out of her cage ready to play, she gets a good scratching on her head and under her wings, then she rides around happily on my shoulder. We're working on peekaboo and a bath in the sink, but her routi...

Thanks for the tip. I'll have to give it a try. Are your birds clipped or do they fly?

Re: Luna says time for a splash of color!
Have you thought about trying her in the shower with you? My two love it! Although it took slow introductions before they learned to love it. Elle. I have given it some thought. I'm warming her up to it. Right now she likes a spray bottle shower and she takes a dunk in her water dish. I'm hoping to...

Cockatiel night-frights: disaster and recovery (long story)
Along with my IRN Luna, I have four cockatiels: Lucky - normal gray with yellow head male Chloe (Lucky's mate) - yellow pear pied female Angel - albino female Miko (Angel's mate) - albino male I have heard of night-frights before in birds, but I've had my cockatiels for six years and they have never...

Hi! Sorry to hear you are going through the same a's me. I too feel like a bad parent who selfishly made a purchase knowing that I do work a lot of hours and have a busy life. Re: How long does the bluffing stage last?
I've had my Luna for a little over one month now, and her bluffing seems to be never ending. I'm trying very hard to have patience and not lose hope. With my work schedule, I get home about half an hour to an hour after her bedtime, but she is usually awake and wanting out when she sees I'm home. I ...

Re: Luna says time for a splash of color!
Yep. The stripe is still there but it is fading. At least it looks good on her. *shrug*
But we're getting closer to her learning to take a bath in the sink. Step one, her water dish. Step two, a shallow bowl.
Progress is good!

Re: Bed Time??
Hey there. I have the same issue with my 8 month old irn. The shop she was living in until I brought her home would close at five, so that was her bedtime. Even though I am a night owl myself, she is still cranky if she is kept up past her bedtime. She is in my room and I have a dim light on in ther...

Luna says time for a splash of color!
I knew Luna was silly, but today I found out just how silly and I couldn't stop laughing. This morning as I was leaving for work, Luna decided to try to take a bath in her water dish. So I picked up the spray bottle and gave her a quick shower, which seemed to satisfy her and she started to preen he...

I wish I could have caught a picture or video of it, but she really doesn't like my cell phone and that was all I had on me at the time.
But, these are the things about her personality that made me fall in love with her in the first place.

Re: Very Quiet Baby-Normal???
I noticed that my seven month old ringneck was awfully quiet for the first few weeks that I've had her, but she has started to open up and chatter in the mornings. She has even started to mimic a few sounds.
I think it's just because they are young and they are still learning things.

Why we named her Luna...
As I'm getting to know my baby girl Luna, I'm starting to see just how well her name fits her (named after the quirky Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter, strong in heart and strange in an endearing way). When I first met Luna we couldn't take our eyes off of each other and she started showing off in he...

That is such a touching story, and the difference in her appearance is amazing!
I work in a vet hospital so I see things like this from time to time, and it's always fun to see the animal turn around and become happy with their new home and new owner.
I wish you and Nikki the best of luck!

Aw that's a cute name. I know how you feel! When I first met Luna I had to go visit her in the shop on my days off until I had the money together and the cage arrived to bring her home. She hasn't said any words yet. I've had her with me for about...two/three weeks now. She's only seven months, so I'm not expecting her to talk any time soon, so we're working on easy sounds first then working up to words.

I can relate to the waiting. I waited five years before I got my girl. I admire you for taking the budgie! That poor bird, I would have lost it and told off the shop owner and bought the bird as well. I can't stand when people are like that to animals. I know from experience that they are a lot smar...

Introducing my Luna bird. :)
After some trial and error, I finally got Luna to be ok with a camera. So as she was eating her lunch (special veggie mix prepared and sold at the local bird shop), I snapped a few pictures. Enjoying some yummy corn and green beans, her favorite! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Hakkai16/Nikon...

Luna: fast learner, or coincidence?
So while working with my Luna bird, I pet her and talk to her while she is out with me, and ignore her bluffing bites. I uncovered her this morning, and said good morning to her as well as making kissy noises at her (I make the kissy sounds every time she comes out in hopes she'll learn it). As I le...

Re: Is this a dead forum...?
Sounds like you are on the right track with your bird :) The bluffing stage typically lasts a few months, from what I hear. Although it can be longer or shorter depending on the bird. Kashi, the one I think is female lasted about 2 months. Archimedes never really went through a bluffing stage. But ...

Re: Is this a dead forum...?
My IRNs went through a bluffing phase and it was not fun! It didn't last too long, thankfully. Rather than react badly, or get angry, I tried to ignore their behavior. I also learned a good trick to teach them to just bump my finger or hand away when they want to be left alone, rather than bite. So...

Nearly all the local mom and pop style pet stores that used to be in my town when I was a kid have all closed up and moved out of town. My seven month old female is going through the bluffing stage. She doesn't break the skin when she bites, and when she first comes out she likes to be cuddled and petted. After reading the article posted on this site, I've learned to just ignore it and gently blow on her if she bites too hard, that ...
