Re: 4 weeks old chick lost all body and tail feathers
I'll make this short: 12 days ago, she passed away. I had an autopsy done and tests for diseases - it turns out she had PBFD. Since I live relatively small (one bedroom apartment), there is now a chance that more of my birds have it (I have 5) - the next few months I will have to separate everyone a...

Orange feet and nails?
In all the descriptions of the various mutations I have read, feet colors are described as light, pink, or grey, with light, grey or black nails. What about orange tinted feet, with a hint of orange in the nails? Is this uncommon, or supposed to belong to a specific mutation?

Re: 4 weeks old chick lost all body and tail feathers
I've had her for 3 weeks now, and the feather loss - as far as I can figure out - was from severe dehydration/lack of nutrients, they fell out like dry autumn leaves within 12-24 hours after she arrived - then it stopped (as I was on 24 hour watch with her the first couple of days, making sure she g...

Re: 4 weeks old chick lost all body and tail feathers
She is doing a lot better. Her breast bone was razor sharp, but she is now gaining weight and muscle, eating well and the last two nights slept perching. No more feather loss, but she will probably take longer to fly due to having no tail feathers right now, but her flights are coming in nicely - an...

4 weeks old chick lost all body and tail feathers
10 days ago I got a 4 weeks old baby for hand raising. She was pulled from the nest and brought straight to me within the hour. I have hand fed before, but this was different, she was terrified. I barely got any food in her the first day, and she lost all emerging feathers on the body and tail. From...

Re: Basics of how to use the Genetic Calculator
Ok, so here is my new baby, from a violet cock and cobalt hen - that's all I know. What can you guys tell me about the color/genetics here? I chose a different and younger one than the one in my previous post, so disregard that info, this is from a different set of parents. Terje http://i366.photobu...

Re: Visual grey baby from visual grey cock & "olive green" h
I deduce from the above, that they Grey chick carries two recessive Blue genes and at least one dominant Grey genes. It could be of either gender.. Yeah, GreyGreen's are still commonly (but mistakenly) called 'olives' unfortunately some people just call it how they see it. Just popping back to say ...

Re: can IRN and cockatiels live together?
I am currenty raising a young ringneck next to my adult cockatiel pair. They get along very well, but I don't think that would be the case if the situation was reversed. Especially my female almost adult ringneck can't stand the cockatiels, and she's known them for a while.

Re: Basics of how to use the Genetic Calculator
Deb, I'm just repeating what my very inexperienced ears thought they heard the breeder say. Maybe there is no such thing. 10 days from now, he/she will be here. I know there was cobalt blue in the same clutch. Here he/she is; and also the father. Here in Holland they often talk about (directl...

Re: Basics of how to use the Genetic Calculator
I'd love to se a photo of a turquoise blue violet, because with one of my two new additions ( DD violet cobalt (does that mean dark?), combined with either of the two I have (a turquoise pallid pair), that seems to come up a lot when I do test matings in the calculator. I don't even know what that i...

Re: Visual grey baby from visual grey cock & "olive green" h
Ok, thanks - he or she is here, I'll be getting the dna sexing done in a few wees, along with the usual check for the most common diseases. He's 7 ½ weeks and in the process of being weaned but still greedily eats a couple of spoonfuls of baby formula twice a day. http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/...

Re: Basics of how to use the Genetic Calculator
Hi Deb, grey is a blue series bird, so you will get blue babies by putting 2 grey birds together, unless of course 1 bird is a double factor grey then you will get all grey babies, seeing that you got 1 blue baby, that would mean that both your birds are single factor, will explain all this in more...

Presenting my new babies
They don't have a name yet - the grey arrived yesterday (the first two pics) and the violet will come in a couple of weeks. Anyone care to guess about their gender? I will do a DNA test later, but from what I see now, I guess female grey and male violet, from their heads and beaks. http://i366.photo...

Visual grey baby from visual grey cock & "olive green" hen
I am considering an offer of a young grey chick. It's pure grey, no green. The cock is the same color, grey with no hint of green. I'm guessing what they call "olive green" is a grey green hen. Now, my question is this: Knowing only these factors, what would you seasoned breeders deduct fr...

http://i366.photobucket.com/albums/oo106/newlooklondon/IMG_5430.jpg Here with my 10 month felale - who is going through a very long winded molt. I noticed that her central tail feathers are not molted but broken off - is it wise to leave them to molt out by themselves, leaving her almost tailless f...

Re: Mutation type
Do their color intesnsify as they mature? I have a pair, where the female (10 months) is much paler than the male (almost 2). Her flight feathers and tail are also white, while he has grey flights & a turqouise tail.

Re: What Mutation Please
Interesting topic - I'll be getting a violet soon, but do not know the specifics, I had no idea there were so many different violets. I know it's split to clearhead/cleartail. What would be the correct questions to ask the breeder about color specifics?

Re: Hello - new to this forum
I haven't been on the forum lately, but here things have moved fprward a bit: I have a stunning new male, turqoise blue pallid, a lot more vibrant than my female, who is almost a year -the male is two. They get along very well and could be caged together after only 10 days. I will post pics soon - a...

Re: can IRN and cockatiels live together?
I have a cockatiel of around 7 months that I have had since he was 12 weeks. I recently got a young ringneck of the same age. I'm currently in the stage of seeing if they can get used to each other. They have separate cages where they can see each other and I let them out separately. My ringneck is ...

Re: Hello - new to this forum
LOL - that's correct, apparently galahs got that name from their silly and comical nature. I've been browsing the forum, and come to the conclusion that my ringneck is a turqoise blue pallid (lacewing), although the turqoise part is relatively pale. He's still in his baby feathers, but if it's on sc...

Hello - new to this forum
I'm new here, and also new to owning a ringneck. I recently adopted a 6-7 months old male (I guess because of his behaviour) but have other animals as well - a young cockatiel, a 12 year old galah, three senior dogs and an elderly cat. My ringneck is a lacewing, but I'm not sure exaxctly which varie...
