Re: Hi all :O) x
Thanks Ellie :) he only does it when I go up to his cage and he's in it - I figured it was just him telling me to back off as it was his territory - but it's good to know other birds do it as well and it's not just me lol My husband has always been the one since he was a baby that puts Sullie away a...

Sullie is 1 today!
My little feathered baby is the BIG 1 today!! I can't believe he's 1 already!! He hasn't got a proper ring yet, BUT his ring has been getting darker and last week we noticed a patch of like pink\orange on his ring so I'm pretty sure he's a boy (I wouldn't care if he was a girl or boy tbh) He's curre...

awww Ellie, I hope Janey is ok? Sul will sometimes just go bonkers flying around the room and eventually land as thin as a rake as if something has really scared him- last time he did this I was in his room and it was one of his own feathers that had floated around the room and had freaked him out l...

Re: Hi everybody, Im a newbie and need some advise!
aww congrats on your two new babies - they sound lovely. I think you're totally right - I'm no expert at all like some of the people on this lovely forum, but patience is the key I have found. I would just spend as much time as you can sat with them. My little boy would go completely mental when we ...

Re: just got my IRN, cant control the biting
I agree - it sounds like he may be telling your hand to back off a bit when he goes to bite you - I would spend time with him, talk to him and sit with him etc etc and let him get used to you before you you try your hand again - eventually he'll work out you're not trying to hurt him. Sullie wasn't ...

Re: just got my IRN, cant control the biting
aww congrats on your new feathered baby :) He's only 4 months old and now has a brand new home with new people around him so I would say he's going to be quiet for a while (Obviously depends on each bird) Going from my experience when we got Sullie, he was silent for quite a few months, would go mad...

Hi Ellie - sorry I don't have any advice as you guys all know a lot more about these gorgeous birdies than I do - but that sounds like a good plan you have come up with it and I hope it works out for you as Janey sounds like a wonderful little bird xxxxxxxxx

Re: is putting a small mirror a good idea??
It was well over a month before we heard a peep off Sullie - he just made little noises when he was ready too and we just left him be to talk in his own time - he probably makes noises at a mirror because he sees another bird and feels more comfortable at this stage trying to communicate with a bird...

Re: 1st time IRN owner- need help plz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi :) Congrats on your new little feathered baby :) Was he hand tamed? Sullie my IRN wasn't and it took him a long time to stop going completely and utterly mad when we walked near his cage - we would sit with him everyday and bring his cage into another room with us if we were in there for a while ...

Re: giving up on my irn
I think it takes a lot longer than 2 weeks for any bird to really settle in (Obviously does depend on the bird itself) When we got Sullie, it took him well over a month to settle in and longer to make any sounds at all, he was just silent for well over a month, maybe two - Your IRN sounds like a lov...

Re: my indian ringneck has 3 years old and doesnt talk plz H
Hi :) I'm no massive IRN expert, but I think this is like any bird - some of them will talk and others sometimes just won't. Sul is just starting to say a few words and whistles, but George, our Cockatiel we had before him never really spoke much and preferred his little noises and whistles. The onl...

Teaching the 'Up' Command for Finger training
Hi All I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on training a bird to use your finger as a perch. Sullie has done really well in the 8 months we've had him and he's now at a stage where he's no longer scared of hands and allows me to put my finger right up to him, and also he will freely fly to...

Re: Question about getting an Un-tame Bird
Hi there :) When I got Sullie last year he came from a breeder, but was not hand tamed at all. I have always had cockatiels and Budgies and my mum has an African Grey Parrot (Who was hand tamed) - and I did wrongly assume that we would be able to tame him quite quickly like a cockatiel. When Sul fir...

Thanks Ellie - will give that a go as well - We bought a clicker last year not long after we got Sullie. Every time we clicked he jumped out of his feathers lol Now he's settled in though we'll give it another try and see if we have anymore luck lol
Thanks

Re: Sullie - now 9 months old :)
Thanks Ellie :) Yes, we have a perched area outside his cage - when he comes out, he jumps straight on this and walks up to the end we sit at. He seems comfortable enough to walk up to my hand and take food from it, so I'll try the next step and try holding it away with the offer of my finger to get...

Sullie - now 9 months old :)
Hi all Hope you all had a great Christmas & New Year! Well Sullie is doing really well :) If you remember, when we first got him he was like a wild bird, terrified of us, even more terrified of hands and would go completely nuts when you went anywhere near his cage... We started with showing him...

Re: So pleased with Sullie's Progress!
One very happy Mummy sitting here :) Sullie has been doing really well. We have been trying to get him to be less afraid of hands - and now with the help of Archimedes, Anakin and a few other youtube stars, he will fly to our hands when he sees the videos playing on our phone. Its got to the point n...

Re: My bird hates the cage. Help!
Hi - I feel your pain! I have exactly the same problem at the moment with Sullie! We let him out everyday in his bedroom at the moment whilst we're taming him - he's fantastic whilst he's out - he actually flies to us now which is fab - BUT - when it comes time for his bed, will he go in? Will he he...

So pleased with Sullie's Progress!
Hi all :) Just had to post about Sullie. I posted in here a few weeks back not long after we got Sullie. He hadn't been hand tamed or hand reared at all and was scared stiff of hands and us! Everytime we would go near his cage he would just go crackers. Since then everyday we have wheeled his cage i...

Hi Rachel I just wanted to post to say that we have an IRN with the same type of behaviour at the moment. We got Sullie just over a month ago now, he was about 11 weeks old. He hasn't been hand reared at all and was very very scared of us. I have had birds all my life but I've never had an IRN, and ...

Hi all Just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Tracy and i'm from the UK. I have had birds all my life from Budgies, cockatiels, African Greys and now I have fallen head over heels in love with my new baby called Sullie :) He's a green IRN and he's about 12 weeks old. Unfortunately we searched fo...
