Re: Head in a cup and dunking food
Yep. Toys get dunked, nutriberrys get dunked, broccoli gets dunked, even the ground paper bedding gets dunked! These guys are equal opportunity dunkers. And Percy is still singing with his head in his bowel.

Head in a cup and dunking food
So Percy has picked up a new thing. He loves to stick his head in his food cup and chirp. I think maybe he likes the sound of his own voice! It looks so funny! Achilles don't do it, but gives Percy a very courious look when he does it. Also they both are dunking their food in their water cups. They ...

I have an opportunity to get an African Grey from a rescue. They have 3 that need adopting, but I can only take one. That is only if he and Percy and Achilles will get along. Does anyone know if African Grey's and IRN's will cohabitate? I don't plan on keeping them in the same cage, but they will be...

Re: Should I be concerned?
Called the vet today and explained my concerns. He said not to worry as Percy is acting fine, playing and eating well. He said that as long as he is not plucking his feathers and continues to act normal, it is probably just moulting. It was almost a mute point because I almost lost him yesterday. St...

Yea that's what I'm thinking. I'll call first thing tomorrow morning and get him an appointment. I was going to take him to the vet anyway, but I think I wanted another opinion to make sure I wasn't just being paranoid. Thanks and I'll keep ya posted.

Percy don't look right. His feathers look kind of disheveled. He don't look smooth like Achilles does. He is acting fine and eating well, playing ect. I have checked his vent and nostrils, and both look fine. He just don't look right. Kind of frumpy so to speak. They seem to be molting a bit, but Ac...

My guys are out of the cage all day, but my wife is here with them. At night, they go into the cage by themselves. By about 7:30-8:00 they are both sound asleep in the cage and stay there all night, but I do close and latch the door when we go to bed only because it got up one morning and couldn't f...

I've looked around the forum and can't seem to find any info on nail trimming. A couple months ago Deb and I trimmed their nails but we just sorta snipped off the tips. At last!! We gave Percy his last dose of antibiotics and it couldn't be happier. He is doing just fine and his foot looks good as new. He still favors and picks at it a little, but the vet said that this is possibly a behavior now, sort of a habit. If it persists, I'll take him back to the vet for a...

I think the biggest problem with microwave cooking, especially a soft food like porage, is hot spots. I know that warming up my grandson's bottle in the microwave is not allowed for that reason. Percy is doing just fine thanks for asking. He has responded well to the antibiotic, and we have had no issues giving him the meds. He's a great bird and is such a gentelman. He still has about 9 days left on the meds and I can't wait till it's over.

I don't think eating from a spoon will cause a problem because they are eating at their own pace and the soft food is not being forced down. Check out this website that Melika showed me and I think a lot of your questions will be answered. http://www.avianweb.com/handfeedingutensils.html

Re: Percy has an infection
Aspiration is when a liquid is inhaled into the lungs. If you have ever been swimming and sort of sucked in some water and coughed it up a bit, that is a form of aspiration. When medicine is given to a bird with a syringe, the medicine may be forced into their windpipe instead of their stomach or cr...

Well the vet said a great big no to diluting or mixing Percy's medicine. Turns out that the kind he is taking does not do well when mixed with food or diluted in another liquid. I don't know if it will hurt to dilute it. It's not too hard to give it to him with my wife's help. I hold him and she sticks the syringe in his mouth and down it goes. As far as his favorite juice goes, I've never given him juice, but I have yet to find a fruit they don't like!
