Re: My IRNs are 1 year old :)
Wow time flies. Their hatch birthday was Feb 15. I didn't get them till April of last year though. Their feathers are looking pretty shabby right now. I believe they are going through their first molt (I think they molt at 1 year and 2 years?). Archimedes is quite the cassanova, he whistles and say...

Re: Creativity In The Kitchen!
Hi all! Just finished cooking up a nice delicious protein meal for Mario, containing the following: Carrots, peas, corn, broccoli, cauliflower, crushed almonds, some freshly cooked chicken and a couple of eggs. I cooked all the veggies in the microwave for a couple of minutes, while I crushed up so...

Re: EMY Holding on to her food even while dozing!!!!
I think a clearer picture would be required for any age guess. And someone with more knowledge might be able to ask some specific questions to determine where she is in development. A good avian vet or likely a breeder would have the most accurate guess if the rescue has no more information to prov...

Re: Eating
I have been pretty amused lately by watching different responses my boyfriend and I get from the birds when we are eating. When I eat, the birds will usually take a knee each to sit on and I give them little tidbits. It didn't take much effort to teach them that is the easiest way to score my food....

Re: lost of Bluey
today Bluey flew into the kitchen window and broke his neck. I had shown Delfin and Bluey the windows in the lounge room and the glass sliding door in the dining room and they knew of these windows. but I never showed them the windows in the kitchen. Normally the kitchen is off limits to both...

Re: chattering noises while resting
my Copurnicus makes those squeaky mumbles in his sleep too. He gets quite loud, it's adorable. I was wondering if he would continue to squeak-talk when he got older? He's only 13 weeks old at the moment. Also, do both males and females do it? I don't know if he's a boy or girl so I was trying to ge...

Re: Should I leave my ringneck home alone
You'll need to keep your IRN out of Jersey too, unless they've changed the law. I hear mutterings of it changing, but no confirmation yet. Thanks Miss K I left him home for one night He was fine I left the radio on and made sure he had enough water I did miss him though. I didn't think about about ...

Re: Should I leave my ringneck home alone
He should be ok for one night. make sure he has more than one water dish if he has any habit of knocking his over. you could also put a radio on a timer if you are worried about him being lonely. We have to leave our birdies home. one's a Quaker parrot and he's not allowed in pennsylvania ( or jers...

My ringneck chatters a lot and makes squeaking noises while he's in the nap position, you know when he turns his head and rests it on his back. I'm wondering does anyone have any experience with this behavior? Why do they do that?

I recommend getting the video on training for medical exams from http://www.goodbirdinc.com. She might have something on bet YouTube channel on toweling...

Re: taming my ringneck to like my boyfriend
You can't make your bird stay on anything if it doesn't want to, they are the same as us, if a guy you didn't know asked you to sit on his lap and held you down even though he knew you wanted to get off, you wouldn't like that too much would you? I would give it time, maybe take a step back with gi...

Re: Ringneck isn't comfortable when my boyfriends around
Hi liljo The caution you've described is normal. It is definitely related to fear. It is good that your bird feels it can fly away even when clipped because otherwise your bird may bite your boyfriend. Your boyfriend needs to concentrate on making Roscoe feel comfortable and safe whilst he's around...

Hi everyone, I'm the new owner of a 7 mth old IRN. His name is Roscoe, and sometimes he can be a handful. I'm happy to be here with like minded people who share a common passion for raising birds. They are a great addition to our families. If anyone has any tips or tricks pertaining to raising him, ...
