A Green Cleartail (YHYT) split Blue X Blue Cleartail hen will produce 50% Cleartails and 50% split Cleartails. Both Cleartails and splits will be half Green split Blue and half Blue.

Thanks Kappa very interesting indeed. I have been told that the Deep gene gives a brighter phenotype than the Dark gene in blue series. Is such a difference visible in green series? I can't tell from the photos but I wouldn't expect to be able to do so.

Not CHCT (Cleartail) they don't get the clear head until they are mature and only the males get the clear head. Given the shade of Blue I would guess Blue Pallid but it is a guess without better pics. The only mutation I know of that exhibits both Blue and Grey is Misty but I have never had a Misty ...

There is no doubt about the existence of Deep as a separate mutation. Willy Stobart conducted the necessary breeding studies and published the proof. It is undeniable.

Deep is a third dominant structural mutation like Violet and Dark. In double factor Deep the bird still looks blue like DF Violet still looks violet. DF Dark Blue, or "Mauve" as they call it for some reason, looks Grey.

BuksV. As I understand it, and I am sometimes wrong, psitticin means yellow pigment and psitticine means pertaining to parrots. I am not quite sure what Paul thinks the words mean.

Thanks a lot. I must admit it is difficult to understand/accept that there are numerous mutated genes and different loci impacting on eumelanin synthesis/transport and only one locus where mutations impact on psitticin.

I have never studied the second blue locus concept found in budgies. I particularly have no idea how par blue mutations from the two loci act in combination with each other on the phenotype. Could you either explain and/or point me to some good references.
