Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
I don't know if you have tried any trick training with your bird, if you want any tips or links let me know. edit: auto correct I started working with Celest tonight on her little perch and I taught her to turn around. It took her less than ten minutes and she was doing a 360 before I even told her...

Re: Weird Behavior
My little one acts similar. If i get too close to the cage or try to touch the toys, she will snap at me but I don't allow her to bite me. When I want to take her from the cage or the play stand and it isn't her idea, then I put something in her mouth first and then pick her up. Sometimes she is rea...

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
Thanks Claire! I will look at those and get started here soon. So far, I've only ever given her one peanut but she loved it. I regularly give her pieces of walnut as a treat and that seems to work well. My favorite nut is pecan, but she doesn't like it as much as I do, lol. I introduced her to peanu...

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
Thanks Claire! I haven't tried any trick training yet, but I do plan on starting on that at some point. She spends the majority of her time on/in her cage playing with her toys and preening herself. We had a really good day yesterday. I did some errands and I just let her come over to me either on h...

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
Thanks for the honest advice. I was trying to discern that. I was wondering if that might be the case. I have been trying to spend more time just sitting near her cage. I was afraid I wasn't handling her enough and that's the reason she was acting this way. The reason I've thought that is because I ...

Re: Violet IRN scritches
Thanks! She really is too cute for her own good hehe.
She can certainly be a little diva sometimes, as pictured below. Normally when she gets in her water bowl, I pick her up and take her to her shower perch and get her all soaked under the shower.

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
hey Skyes_crew, Thanks for your response. I didn't view it as judgmental. I just didn't want you to think that's all she has. I'm going to try putting more things in there and see how she does. I haven't bothered her while she's on her sleeping perch and I'll try to leave her be or coax her off of i...

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
Ok. Thanks for the advice. I do have some more toys for her but they're in a different place. She likes to play on my coffee table with her playstand and she has several toys there that she is in the process of shredding. I just rotated in the toys that are in her cage right now. I'll get more soon....

Re: Giving a treat in spite of bluffing....
I have a question to piggy back what was asked earlier. My IRN is exhibiting the same cage territorial behavior. This happens most often when she's on her sleeping soft perch at the top of her cage. My question is, should I reach for her anyway, even though I know she will bite me and endure it and ...

Here's a video where she is playing in her water bowl. It sounds like she understands most of what I'm saying.

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
Haha thanks everyone! I do my best to ignore all her screeches, but for the most part now she's just sticking with one particular one and it's pretty loud but I don't think it's conure loud. I'm guessing it must be her natural squawk. She has been biting me more today than usual. She broke the skin ...

Aww what a cutie you've got there. The green on the wings is an interesting contrast to the turquoise.

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
I'm not sure about the bluffing thing. I think he/she may actually still be doing it. Sometimes she will bite me when I got to pick her up and sometimes she won't. If she's playing with her toys on my table that she's aggressive with she will bite. She hasn't actually broken the skin with her bites ...

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
Thanks guys! No, I haven't had him/her DNA tested, but I have been thinking over the past few days that based on the behavior that he/she may be female. She lunges at her ball and will run across the cage to attack it and defends his/her sleeping perch. She tries to get me when I open the top of the...

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
This isn't my first bird. I'm not experienced with IRNs. I had a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo for many years, but he recently passed away. :*(. I have common knowledge with birds but don't know the specific ringneck behavior. I've only had this little guy for a week now.

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
lately when I bring the ball around he gets aggressive and puffs up and runs toward it with his mouth open. Not sure why. He also sometimes when he's on his sleepy perch, his eyes with pin and dilate and pin and dilate and he bends his head down and fluffs up and sometimes squawks at me. Not sure ye...

Here is my little guy with me. I couldn't find a photo of us with an accurate color for him. He's light purple but the photo makes him look blue/grey.

Re: Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
Thanks! That was what got me hooked. I was already considering an IRN but when I saw his color, I knew he had to come home with me (of course, that wasn't the only reason). How many IRNs do you have? I only have the one. I had a lesser sulfur crested cockatoo but we recently passed away. I didn't do...

Intro: Violet IRN companion in San Diego
Hi all! I'm new to the world of IRN's. I just got my friend over the weekend. We've been getting acclimated to each other. It's been great! I've been introducing him to new fruits and vegetables. He's about 7 months old and he's light purple. He's a sweetheart most of the time. The people that I ad...
